Have you ever cancelled a service because they were rude or inflexible?

I am about to cancel my home owners insurance policy. We have our auto and our homeowners insurance with them and our auto insurance is automatically deducted from my checking account every month. So I got this bill from them last month it did not say what the bill was for but it is time for our home owners insurance to be due, and the bill was for a large amount like the home owners policy. So I assumed it was the home owners insurance bill and I sent in a check paying it in full. Yesterday I get this letter that they have not received a payment for my home owners insurance so I called to day to say I payed it in full nearly a month ago. The guy checks and then sees that the money went to my auto insurance instead of my home owners insurance. So I told him it was a mistake and could he please transfer the money to the proper account. He flat out told me no, that I received a paid in full discount and I was like that is not what I meant to pay. So he got kind of nasty with me and told me he could not transfer it. I told him I would be looking in to a different company for a quote and hung up on him. I think that is rediculas I could cancel the policy if I wanted to, so what is the big deal about transferring the money. I am used to paying the auto insurance monthly. Has someone's rudeness caused you to cancel a service before?

Yeah, I won't tolerate being treated like crap. Something similiar happened to me with a credit card - I signed up for it and bought something - TWO WEEKS LATER they sent me a bill with a late fee saying I didn't make my first payment. I was like huh? I just signed up for it, this is the first bill I ever got! So I call them and tell them they need to waive it - the guy said he couldn't waive it until they got the first minimum payment so I needed to send the payment and then call back... so I said okay, I'll pay you right now on the phone and we'll take care of this - he said "There's a $15 charge to do that" - oh no, I said - give me your supervisor!! So I spoke with the supervisor, and that took a good 15 minutes of explaining, being pretty much a mean witch and finally she waived it. Man I was aggravated. We planned on paying the card off a little by little (it was 18 mos 0% interest, which when you're running a business is a great thing!) but now I plan on paying it off asap just so I won't have to deal with them and then cancel the stupid card. There are other companies I won't deal with at all. Comcast hijacked my bill up by $75 with no warning and I was under the presumption I had the same plan for 12 mos whereas they said it was only 6 mos - I fought and fought with them, they wouldn't give me a better deal. (My cable bill was like $200 - for nothing fancy, three tv boxes and internet) - I switched to Verizon and so far it has been much better, though their service isn't perfect by any means. At least I know my rate has a 2 year contract though :) It's funny now, they keep sending me mail saying they want me back - they had the chance to keep me...so I will not go back! Anyways, sometimes you just have to stand up for yourself. Get a supervisor - and after that then switch :)

Ya, such a case has happened with me. I had a credit card. I used to pay the bills manually without fail on time. But once it happened that they lost the cheaque which I had put in the company's drop box. And since the payment didn't happen on time, they charged me a big penalty. I then sorted out the matter with them and latter on closed my credit card account.

I have cancelled a fair few services in my life due to the fact that I live in a very unfriendly city and plus people are just down out rude if they cant be nice I will just take my money elsewhere. No one deserves to be treated like trash or nor should they feel like they have been lied or cheated in anyway if in doubt get the heck out!

Hi Ladym Personally I would phone up and talk to someone higher and make your point, I have never heard that it is not possible to transfer Money over specially when it is their fault and not yours I would also write a letter to them, I mean that is disgusting I have got rid of companies yes because I was not getting proper service but I always made my point to the Company that I was getting rid of I hope this will be sorted for you and do get another Company

I sure have I feel that I don't have to take bad treatment from anyone. I have canceled services and walked out in the middle of deals because someone was either not treating me right or I suspected them of being dis-honest. Thankfully we have choices here in America and we don't have to put up with bad service or dishonesty. We can always go somewhere else and there will always be someone who will be better at taking care of us.

That seems pretty ridiculous! They could just make you pay the difference for the discount if it is that big a deal! I have never hung up on somebody before. We did get so mad at our electric company that we threatened to sue them once. They gave us an electric bill for $1200 for one month, when our normal bill was around $200-$300. They refused to listen to reason and were saying it was our fault! Eventually, they came out and looked at the meter and found that it had reset itself back to the date it first went online and then caught itself up... so the bill was for the entire time the house had been occupied with that particular meter! They never even apologized! It was infuriating.

Hi ladym: Definetly yes and i would do it everytime i am sure i can find a better service. I think this is our right as consumer to be treated in a godd way. In fact we are the reason of their jobs so we deserve to receive a good service and when we ask for something we deserve a polite answer. It's horrible when someone is so mean with you, simply horrible. I'd do the same thing you do. Have a nice day. Alvaro.
