With the paycut and loss of child support payments I had this year I am struggling to make this a good Christmas for my 2 kids. I took a part time job and also do online writing. Seems like I am always working just to keep a roof over our heads and keep the bills paid.
Any cost saving suggestions for this upcoming holiday season for anyone with teenage kids? Thanks : )

I think that this christmas there will be alot of us struggling to afford all the usual things that they would buy.I think peoples bills have all gone up and with there not being many jobs there will be alot less people having the money to spend.I have 6 children and that is with out all the other people i buy presents for.

I know that teenagers like expensive presents like x boxes and play stations. These can be bought second hand and disks can be swapped with friends. My fourteen year old son loves computer games. I have found some bargains in Asda which is a shop owned by Walmart. I think that you could give your kids $20 and get them to choose some small Christmas presents. Visiting a homeless shelter could give your kids good feeling from helping the poor. Kids over the age of 13 can do paper rounds here. I got my Christmas tree and lights for a few pounds at Wilkinsons. I got some Christmas balls from a charity shop. So you have had a loss of child support payments. Therefore you might be able to see if you can get that back again. It is a shame that you have suffered a pay cut. It is wonderful that you have a roof over your head. You could use less electricity, water and gas to make the bills less. Good luck.

I have bills to pay that i am putting off till i get paid from my seasonal job and what i get form unemployment i am trying to buy gifts for the family and inlaws. It is important to give of course but giving isn't always the most important think to do but just knowing you have family and friend that love you this holiday season is the most important thing you can have in life. Let your kids know that times are hard and now just for you but for many people across the country and world.
I know that if you shop at walmart they will match any other stores prices for the same item if another store has a better price. Dont forget that walmart has perfume, cologne and even gifts for a dollar that are great for teenagers too. Also target has a dollar section that is pretty neat and has some good stuff also. Going to the dollar store is also a great idea for gifts if your struggling. Just always print out coupons for big retail stores and then do some shopping. I will be trying to make it to kohls as i have some kohls cash and a coupon for 15 % off and im hoping to buy some shirts for my cousins as their mom said they need clothes so im hoping to buy them some shirts at least. Its time to think about family and not just yourself when shopping.

I love the dollar store as well as Target for stocking stuffers. Walmart and Kmart are great too. I have not bought myself anything in months. It's all about the kids.

We always shop at the GW Boutique as we call it - GoodWill! You can get great deals there. I am usually lucky with getting shirts for my son there.

Ok, maybe this is the year to be grateful for what you have and not upset at what you don't have. How about you take your kids to visit a foodbank this December. You can maybe volunteer there as a family and serve meals for a few hours. Let your kids know that times are tough all over the country, and world. You guys still have a roof over your head, but a lot of people don't.
Let your kids know that the reason your working so much so that you don't end up homeless.
And as for Christmas presents, give them each a small amount of money ($25) and let them decide how to spend it.
Make this a year of togetherness, and not of overspending.

We have actually signed up to help at a local homeless shelter this month. You are right - it would be great for them to see how lucky they truly are. We are all together, we are healthy, and we have a place to live and food to eat.
