Are pitbulls bad dogs or do you think they just have a bad reputation? WHy do you think they are bad? does anyone have one that has attacked? Do you have one that is a great dog? I have a pitbull and a lot of people are scared of her. She is a nice dog and has never hurt anyone before!

hi jen, i think it's they just given a bad rep. depends on how you bring them up. any dog can be viscious, my aunt had a bull terrier and she was great never put a foot wrong round us nor any other time i heard of. you get the dogs being protective of their home turf, mums boxer went a bloke cause he had a black and white top on. there was a kid that wore a simluar top, that would poke sticks at him hence the fact he got annoyed. i got bitten by a dachshound when i was a kid, just for going and getting a bike near where it was eating. don't remember what happened to the dog. we won't feed the dogs scraps when people are around in case something like that happens again.

you should see our little bitsa, she has gone for my boss and work mate a few times. nothing bad but enough to let them know she knows they shouldn't be round my place. blue heelers are also known for being protective, the one we had got very nasty for no reason. sometimes it's also bred in them.

wow! I think it had a lot to do with how you train, treat, and control them! any animal you train to attack will. If you are not nice to your dog and hurt him he will learn that and hurt others

Pittbulls have a bad reputation but they are not the only dogs that can be violent if not trained properly. German Shephards and doberman pincers can also be aggressive and can be trained to be aggressive. But all three of these breeds can be the sweetest dogs. It all depends on how they were raised and pretty much their owner. There are certainly sweeet pitbulls, but a pitbull raised in the wrong environment can violent and scary. But they can also be amazingly sweet.

Hi Jen According to animal planet, pit bulls only have bad reputation. It's how we raise them. There was one bit pull breeder that breeds his pitbull for fighting. I mean the sole use of his pitbull was to fight. But as it was caught by the animal police. All the dogs were confiscated. They are expecting that all the dogs should be utinized. But NO they did not. The dogs even afford to get adopted.

It's definitely just a bad reputation. People get most of their conceptions of pitbulls from the horror/attack stories and dog fit stories they hear in the news, and have no idea that the dogs can be otherwise. I believe all dogs reflect their owners- if the owner is careless the dog will turn out more wild and possibly attack people.

I tend to think the same thing. I treat my dog great... like a big baby and she has never hurt me or anyone else. I'd be shocked it she ever would. Shes a great dog but i'll be walking down the street and people dont like her at all. They are honestly scared of her. I'll walk with another dog and they will pat that dog.

Okay, I have an american staffordshire terrier, a cousin to the pitbull. I used to own a pitbull though. These dogs aren't bad dogs. They are extremely smart and friendly. The cases you hear on court or the news are usually MIXED breed dogs that have some pitbull in them. If the dog was mistreated and slapped or the parents were then obviously its going to be a mean dog with a mean personality. A lot of people get these dogs and abuse them to make them mean to strangers. I love my staffordshire and I wouldn't trade her for the world. She loves to cuddle with us and is a huge baby. Like you said people give them a bad rep.
