Been A GREAT Hockey Day!!

My son is 12. He has only been playing hockey for 4 years! He is a natural. He hopes to go to Boston College and play hockey. If this is the case.. HE BETTER get a scholarship!! Hockey has really picked up here in NC with the Hurricanes in Raleigh. They have a junior youth hockey team. It cost thousands of dollars to be on the team. I know my son could make Jr. Hurricanes, I just can't afford it so he plays on another local travel hockey team in the Carolina Hockey League (CHL). He has had Raleigh coaches approach him about playing with them. I cannot afford to drive to Raleigh 3-4 times a week. They have 3 on ice practices and 1 off ice practices per week. Plus games. They travel to Detroit and other cities to play. It is very costly. I really do not know how the current NHL player's parents afforded it. The sooner you can get your son skating the better. I would put him in Mites at age 5. They also have Rink Rats for four year olds.

I know it! I know that hockey is an expensive sport. That's why I am also hesitant on taking that road as a parent. But just think, if your son keeps it up, in just as short as 4 years, he would be looking into getting drafted into the NHL.

Thanks. It was a good morning. My son's team won 8-1. My kid had a hat trick and 2 assists. 5 points!! Not bad for a southern boy!!! I never thought my kid would grow up and play ice hockey. I love it. He is so much fun to watch!!
