If You Had The Money What Expensive Necessity Would You Buy For The House?

If I (we) had the money we would definitely buy a new heating sytem. That would include both radiators, boiler and a more energy-efficient gas fire.
Presently, we have a boiler that is over 10 years old so that would have to be replaced if we had the money, as there are more efficient ones around now. Once our current radiators are on they are ON, they cannot be temperature controlled. We do know a heating engineer but he cannot be bothered advising us on temperature gauges but has installed them in the in-laws' house. Grrrr!
We need a new fire (and fireplace) as our present one is kaput. It does not work! To be honest, I am quite pleased about this because it literally EATS money! There is a Valor Homeflame Harmony Gas Fire that I am crazy about because it is 89% energy efficient. If it is anything like my Mum's Robinson Willey Firecharm Living Flame Gas Fire I will be onto a winner...plus the fact it has won awards!
Why do I not go the whole hog and "go green" with a stove, solar panels, all that jazz? It would cost even more money to convert so the idea would be to improve what we have, if that makes sense. I haven't totted up the figures but I reckon for a new heating system, including a boiler, radiators and gas fire/fireplace would set us back at least 6 grand. This is an old, terraced house and we know that some pipework would need to be replaced but then everything would be more efficient so cutting corners is not an option!
Isn't it annoying when things need doing and there's not enough money to do them?
Don't get me started on the bathroom lol :-)

Hi Janey,
if i had the money, i will buy our dream house and my luxury dream car. i will be more confident that even in my old age (more, more decades from now hehehehe), i already have something for my two special kids. i want to prepare everything for them that they will live a comfortable life as they grow older!

...that's if i have the money to spend for but if not, i am content of what we have right now. i am happy with god's blessings--me and my husband have a regualr job, we're able to send our special kids in school, all the basic needs are met and we even have some extra for savings. thanks god for all these blessings even if we don't have that much, much, much money and life is really difficult--we still survive! i don't think it's a shame. we're just dreaming "what if..." cheers.

Hi!It's a shame we still rely on money so much isn't it? If we traded in - say - stones or something we'd all have what we wanted by now!

New roof... however it seems that according to my better half that we need a new hallway, new bathroom and a whole host of other things before the roof gets a look in. I am collecting the water in a (large) bucket up there...
If we came across a large amount of money, I would really like the roof done, but I think the deciding vote is not mine!

I'm the "better half" in our relationship so, therefore loads and loads and LOADS of things desperately need doing in this house. :-)
If it was left to my "other half" he would still have his horrendous settee that gave me a bad back because it was so low down to the floor when I sat on it!
To be honest, though, I would try and talk your partner into a new roof. Tell her it will add value, then she will say "yes please, a new roof would be a great idea!"

I need a lot of fixing up on my house. I need a portion of the roof replaced and new gutters, I would love to replace the front porch (it need it) but make it all screened in. And I would love to add a back porch onto the house and maybe change the layout of the kitchen and move where the back door no exits the house. I have lots of ideas but NO money.. it is nice to dream!

Yes, I know exactly what you mean about "dreaming!" I do an awful lot of that - decorate everywhere in my head - that kind of thing. At least I know what to do when I finally get that elusive job!

A lot of things to spend for the house, if I had the money. I would get an escalator (lol) for the house for ease of climbing stairs. I have never seen a house before with that luxury and I want to be the first in our city, if not, neighborhood, hahahaha. I would also want to spend for a centralized air-conditioning unit to cool the whole house and a centralized pipe-in music for the whole house. Most of all, to be able to install these expensive things, I would need to renovate our old house into something really big and high to fit the escalators in, hahahaha.
(
... (waking up) Was it a good or bad dream? hahahaha)

Escalators lol. I am always frightened of falling over on one and getting a shoe lace trapped and dying! Still go on them though. The thing is you would need a bigger house (like you said) for the escalator going up and the one coming down, like in a department store. Great idea though, I like it!
A stairlift would be cool but a bit slow. I reckon it would be quicker crawling up the stairs on all fours!
