My family had enjoyed kare-kare through all the Christmases of my youth. The festive table is not complete without our creamy kare-kare with bagoong paste. And we usually pack some in empty mayonnaise bottles for relatives to bring home. Since the clan had been broken as many deemed it better to settle in the Americas, those of us left behind had made sure we still get a taste of the sumptuous viand. But no one can cook it better than my mom. And she is far away. So we'd probably be trooping to some Eat-all-you-can and enjoy Christmas kare-kare there. Does your family crave for any dish for Christmas?

Hi! eileen, our family cannot survive Christmas without arroz ala valenciana and caldereta. in the province, my brother would prepare a goat caldereta, it is more delicious than beef. When we are in Manila, we usually enjoy beef caldereta. I have tried eating it with rice cakes and its perfect.
Merry Christmas!

Hi triplejazzm51, arroz ala valenciana and caldereta had been on our menu. I ate both, of course. More than I should have actually. But the takaw-tingin persisted. I only get to eat those Christmas time. And the rice cake, too. Guilty! I do hope your family is enjoying Christmas!

Hi Hatley, kare-kare is meat sauteed in gralic and onions and enriched with peanut butter and roasted rice. It is also stuffed with eggplant, string beans, and banana heart. We eat it with bagoong or shrimp paste. My mom said that there are Filipino restaurants in California. Try kare-kare, caldereta, adobo and pakbet. Sinigang and tinola are really good, too. We prepare it almost everyday. Happy eating!
