A boss should treat all employees alike. Of course it may not be easy to treat every employee in the same way but let hatred by not shown towards anybody. It is good for the business and also for the country. Boss and employee relationship should be beyond all hatred and animosity. Then only the job and the business will survive.

I am an employee for so many years and my experience tells me that never be too naive to expect a boss treats you as you expect from him, let alone "boss should treat all employees alike." why am I saying so?
Because first of all, no one can be that objective. The expecatation is too ideal to be true. Remember when we were at kindergarten? Were we treated alike? of course not. Let's take another ecample, in a whole family, are all the children treated alike? no way. Theorotically, should be. But in reality, no way.
In addition, there is sometimes no need for the boss to treat all employees alike because the contribution is various. Individual abilities vary too. the attitude of employees differ greatly. Some employee are quite passive, they simply finish what they are alloted to do, no more thought, not very creative in fear that they may make some mistakes. some workers are quite self-disciplined. They don't need outer stimuli. They cater for perfection in their work.
Under such situation, do we still think that boss should treat everyone alike? I don't see why.

How people like to be treated by their boss purely depends on thier culture, some people need a harder drill to have respect for thier employer. But i do agree they should all be treated the same to avoid problems between the employees, though maybe again also a difference depending on what level in the command the employee has and the size of company.
Many factors to count in fore. But a good site to get some information about the Power Distance between employer and employee in the different countries are by a Dutch guy called Geert Hofstede and his culture analysis...

You are right. I have seen favoritism in the workplace many times over the years and it is awful for morale and productivity.
I am a manager and have to always remember to include everyone or no one. It can be difficult at times. Each opportunity needs to be posted so that everyone can at least try and apply for it.
