Is texting a way to avoid people or a way to connect even quicker?

I am rather useless in texting! A small text takes me at least 2 minutes to type... Lack of experience I guess.
But I know many people who write well over 20 or 30 texts each day from their mobile phone and use it as a way to stay in touch with people or to share quick messages.
But other people send a text if they don't want to talk to someone.
Do you think textings is improving communication or is abused to avoid people?

I love text messaging, I use to own a Sidekick phone through T Mobile, I actually owned 3 of the different models they offered at numerous times and I loved the phone because I loved to text message and talk on instant messenger programs. A Sidekick had a full keyboard so it was very easy to type messages to others and that's one reason I loved it. If you text each and every day or quite often than you'll get more experience and be able to text quicker. I believe texting is a faster way to connect to others, I've always preferred text messaging over talking on the phone, I hate talking on the phone unless it's my mom, something I have no choice but to use a phone for or an emergency of some sort. Some phones are easier to text on than others, if they have a full keyboard than it's very easy to get the hang of it, if it's a flip phone it can be more difficult that's why I loved having the Sidekick phone. There are times when it's more professional to talk to someone on the phone than text message, but I have called out of work via text message in the past because my boss/managers said it was okay, it was quite funny at first but it worked if it was over abused than it wasn't a good thing but I thought it was cool.

I think texting is a way of improving communication, especially with family and friends. In my case, I see my mom every weekends because I work in the city. Without texting, I will not be constantly in communication with her. Texting makes me feel that she's just nearby, just a "text" away whenever I need her. The same goes for my friends. Texting helps me keep in touch with my friends even though I haven't seen them for years, even though they are far away.

I never really got into texting as it was very expensive when I first started using a mobile. But it sounds as if you are putting texting to good use to have good communications.

That depends on the situation. If my niece doesn't like someone, she will avoid them by texting. It is easier. To connect with someone, you can just type it, you don't have to wait for them to talk. And she says you don't have to worry about sounding dumb.

True, it always depends on the situation. Texting can be used to avoid people. But it can also save time.

I personally believe for me it's just a way to connect quicker. At work, I don't have the time to be on the phone. It is just a really quick process. It could also really help in emergency situations.Like say, my daughter had an emergency but I couldn't answer the phone, she could leave a quick text message instead and I'd get it quicker than a voice message with the way voicemail is set up these days!!So, for me it's a way to connect quicker!

True, that's quicker than checking a voice message. I am not particularly good with texts so it's quicker for me to call! But I sometimes text a message to my husband when I know he is in meetings but I need him to know something.
