Stands for nothing

Well maybe I shouldn't name company names, but since neither of those entities exists any more under those names, what the heck. I used to work for Weyerhaeuser Mortgage Company. Weyerhaeuser is a large lumber company in the Pacific northwest. They sell lumber and paper and own a number of home builders as well. At one time they also had a mortgage company to finance the homes that their builders built using their lumber. They had insurance companies to insure the homes. They had title companies to do title insurance. They had escrow companies. Etc. etc. etc. And then one day they decided to get rid of everything that was peripheral and "focus on their core business", ie lumber and paper. So they sold the mortgage company to a holding company. The holding company, wanting to leverage off of the name brand recognition, so they kept a logo very similar to the Weyerhaeuser one (same color anyway) and they called the new company WMC. What does WMC stand for? Nothing!!! Oh, we had a field day with that one. Bad Dawn and her smart aleck former co-workers. Did you ever have fun at the expense of a company that you worked for?

Hi Dawn. I've only ever worked for one company. I enjoyed working there and never thought of poking fun at it. I did, however, enjoy ribbing one particular salesman there, mainly because all the other girls did, so I joined in. After a while I started to admire him because he always treated everyone well and never retaliated. He was a happy person and about the only man at that time I'd ever heard praise his wife.

Well this particular company pretty much proved that it deserved the "stands for nothing" tag after about the fourth round of layoffs, one of which was cleverly timed so that people wouldn't get their 401K matching funds...

Maggiepie used to live with another gal and would answer the phone there "G's cat house" until the day it was G's mother on the phone!

I used to work for a state agency - that has since changed names 3 times - that was, then the Texas Department of Human Resources - and a co-worker would answer the phone (she was a switchboard operator) "Department of Human Racehorses."

"Department of Human Racehorses" - I like that! It reminds me of someone I know who answered his private phone "City Morgue: Spare Parts Department"
