star rating-- Why do we have it and is it necessary?

Many on here have a star rating of 7 and above and do not want to lose it or go down. I recently noticed that mine has gone down and do not know why. Then I started to wonder what is the purpose of it. Why do you believe we have it? Do you believe it is a necessary thing or not? Do you believe it hinders you speaking your mind for fear that others will rate you negatively and thus will lower your star rating? Does it add anything to the discussion process or make others want to be your friend and comment on your posts? Thanks in advance!
Sincerely in Christ,
Leesa C.

I am sorry to hear that your star rating has gone down. I don't know why some members star ratings change for the worse. I also am not sure why the number of posts sometimes slips. It is a shame that members put a minus against some replies to discussions. Some discussions get deleted by My Lot. I don't see the point of star ratings. I often see 7 and think the member should have 10. I was terribly upset when there was a glitch and my star rating went down by three numbers. Then the next day it went back to what is still is now. Good luck.

imaprolife hi yes the star is necessary, I am surprised you did not read all the guidelines and info on mylot before making this discussion as it tells all about the star system . this is a rating and is done by your fellow mylotters who can either plus or minus your discussions, it is used to calculate our earnings and people should not minus you at all unless you have made some insulting remark in your discussion. you can now speak your mind as long as you are not insulting, insult and mylot admins will jump all over you, and probably delete your discussion.,you have to be civil with your remarks but you c an still be open. the ratings always fluctuate as people go positive or minus,I never minus anyone, I want us all to have good ratings.

Believe me, I read the guidelines when I joined and also before I started this discussion so as not to get it deleted. I'm very thorough. My only thought was that people were giving a minus to posts so to lower someone's rating and that is wrong. If someone disagrees with you fine but to give a minus to you or to have the ability to do that, I think, is not impartial. Our earnings should be based on our posts and not on someone else's whims. We all have differing opinions and should agree to disagree.
To the best of my knowledge I did not or have not insult anyone on here.
Sincerely in Christ,
Leesa C.

Sadly the rating system is not used as it was intended to be used. Many Lotters get a kick out of giving negative ratings to certain users or because they disagree with what a user has said or because they get a kick out of neg rating or even because they have no idea at all of how it should be used.
We are told in the FAQs how to use it and all the above reasons are wrong. All Lotters can now rate the posts made by others once they reach 100 posts themselves but I feel it is unfair that it should be used so soon. Many Lotters with even higher number of posts are still not sure of how it should be used correctly. It is like giving a car to someoone who has never had a driving lesson - they would do the same damage as rating without knowing the purpose of it.
My star has been like it is for so long now that I am used to it and doubt that it will ever budge. The more posts you have the more difficult it is that it moves because the results are based on percentages. The more plusses your posts receives the higher it will be. As you have onky a small number of posts it is likely that yours will move either up or down quicker than another user with a high number of posts.
Don't let it interfere with the way you are as it is not the packaging that makes a person just as it is not the star that makes a Lotter. Yours will rise soon if you don't think about it

The rating system has changed, as it used to be that users would rate others negative left and right, and now they can't do that like they could before. I don't know why others get rated negatively, but it is possible, that since they disagreed with another user, they got trated with a negative and not a positive. Mylot doesn't like it when we do that, as we all have a right to our opinion, whether right or wrong, and we must respect each others opinions, even if we don't agree with them. I don't give negatives unless someone posts links in a response or a discussion, or they are rude, otherwise, I will rate everyone with a positive. I try to help others out as we are all trying to have good ratings here. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

I didn't even really notice the star rating until recently. Now that I know that it's there and how to help people increase theirs, I'll be marking a lot more responses positive and probably also start to choose the best answers to the questions.
