Did you hear that the Minnesota Wilds van carrying their equipment caught on fire?
Alot of their equipment was lost. My son is the one that was reading me the story while he was surfing last night. He prefaced the article by saying that alot of superstious hockey players must be going crazy about now. He's probably right we all know how superstious our guys can be. Last season Hudler put new laces in his skates for every game..If the wings win one day, homer tries to repeat what he did that day on the next game day..we all know you don't use the word shut out before it's in the bag, unless you want to jinx the other team.
What odd ball things do your favorite guys do..and canesfan let us know if it starts in jumior league?

I heard about the van catching fire last night! Yikes!! I know that those guys are going crazy!! Especially the goalie. Goalies are very weird about their helmets and pads. I can't imagine how they feel about losing their skates. My kid would go crazy since you have to get your skates molded to your feet and then break them in. My son tapes his stick before every game. If he has any other superstitions I am not aware of them. I know that it has been difficult buying him new equipment. They love that stinky hockey equipment. He's still wearing his elbow pads from 4 years ago. He needs new ones but doesn't want to give up the old.
I think fans are more superstitious than players sometimes. I find myself wearing the same shirt, etc. if we win. Although these days it doesn't matter what I wear, we will lose. UGH!!!!!!

Oh, I almost forgot. I got my own superstition too. You know where analysts on TV and on radio predict what the score is going to be. I turn off the TV or the radio just before their predicion. In the past, it always jinxed them if analysts predicted a win.

I make sure I wear a wings shirt every game day. Your son is in good company..Shannie wore the same shoulder pads for over 20 years, they were literally held together with duct tape. Chelios wore someone elses and they were equally as old. I don't remember what players dad it was that gave them to him.
If you ever notice when Ozzie is goalie, he is the only goalie that wears the old style helmet with no decoration on it. He bought several when he found them and he thinks he has enough to get him through the rest of his career.
They were saying today that every player carries extra skates and gloves at all times..the problem was they kept them with the other equipment. Since they wear their skates a size smaller than their actual shoe size, I cannot imagine how those poor guys feet will feel at the end of the game tonight.

The only one I know is about my enemy Patrick Roy.I heard he didn't speak the day of the game. I mean not to his wife or kids,No One.My superstition is that if I get to the game and my team is winning,I don't watch the game.If they are losing, then I'll stay and if the are tied I'll stay but if they are wining without me,they Don't need me to watch.

Roy is kind of an odd guy, I always wondered how much he actually lived in his own head.
Mine is similar to yours..if my guys are winning I watch the game while doing other things..if they are losing I think they need my undivided support so I only watch the game. And I will go change shirts between periods.

I heard this story too! And that there is talk of cancelling or postponing the game because some of the equipment lost were skates. And because they say that it is hard for hockey players to break-in into new skates, the game would be unfair. I also heard yesterday that most players have new skates they are trying break-in left at home. I'm sure calls have been made to make sure these second pair will get their way to Ottawa.
Oddball things? The canucks usually have their early morning skate during game day, then most of them have their little nap in the afternoon, and their favorite sandwhich before the game. If this routine is messed up, it shows in the game. That's why I knew they were gonna lose to the canes when they met a few sundays ago. It messed up their routine, as the game was actually 10am our time.

I heard during my game that they had decided to play. Also that in the future..backup skates will not be kept with all the rest of the equipment, just in case this were outo ever happen again. They were joking (I think) abot alot of extra betting going on in Ottawa because of this mess.
I know what you mean about their routine..wings played this afternoon and the guys were talking about the stuff they normally do that they couldn't, and the adjustments they have to make foor the odd game time.
I didn't know that veteran hockey players were able to bend their knees before 10 am?
