How good are you at keeping Santa's identity a secret?

I thought it would be fun to find out how far other parents will go to keep the story of Santa believable. It was a joy to me to see the sparkle in my sons' eyes when Christmas was near and they could see Santa and have their picture taken. When they were big enough to ask I told them those were Santa's helpers because he was making toys at the north pole! I always used special wrapping paper for Santa's presents, they got one each. After I wrapped the two presents I would sneak the paper into the trunk of the car and throw it away in a public trash can when the boys weren't with me. That did a lot toward maintaining the myth because when they were about 6 and 7 they actually looked through the house to see if they could find any of that year's Santa's wrapping paper. Of course, when they asked I told them their dad and I were Santa, I would never lie to them. But that wasn't till they were 8 and 9! What about you? How do you maintain the myth of Santa or do you? Do you love it as much as I did?

My 7yo does and doesn't belive in santa. She knows about St Nick as well and had asked as a matter of fact last night if Santa & St Nick were the same person. I didn't know what to say exactly because in many ways they are but St. Nick was a real person at one time. Whereas Santa was never a real person but evolved from St Nicholas. She also knows she's not allowed in the basement til after Christmas as I told her we don't need to spoil the fun for everyone. She knows mom & dad buy some of the gifts she knows Santa brings some as well. Hubby also made reindeer tracks in the snow one year too. They also ask how he gets into the house cause we don't have a fire place my only answer is he has a magical key that fits any lock.

I love the idea of reindeer tracks! That's so creative of your husband. I was always told that St. Nick and Santa were the same but it was the spirit of giving that mattered.

Yeah once in a while hubby will blow you away w/ doing something a lil extra unexpected for the kids. I found this site when I was trying to explain St. Nick to people as it's a midwest & in particular Germanic folks from WI. I just really love what St. Nicholas stands for http://www.stnicholascenter.org/Brix?pageID=36

I am afraid that I don't really understand your discussion. So far as I and my family are concerned Father Christmas as we call him is as alive as you or me. He is real, a sentient being who lives next to the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy at the North Pole. I urge any "non-believer" to watch the film "Miracle on 34th Street" and then to ask themselves again whether they believe or not.

I have seen that movie and it was wonderful! I believe in the spirit of St. Nicholas, the spirit of giving. I wish there was really a Santa Claus or Father Christmas. They do reside in all our hearts, though, if we'll just recognize them.

Well I was definitely a late bloomer in this area. I believed in Santa until I was 11! I mean, when all my peers knew the truth, there I was defending Santa with all I had. But it was magical believing in him when I did and i can't wait until I can bring magic to my children (when I finally have some) :)

You're not alone, that's about the age where I found out about Santa. It was so nice believing in him that I wanted my kids to have that magic, too. It was so much fun! Remember the trick with the wrapping paper when you have children! My sons told me that's one of the main things that kept them believing. Another fun tradition was baking and decorating a birthday cake on Christmas Eve so we could sing happy birthday on Christmas. You can see the cakes looking better every year as they grow up and become creative and skillful. I still kinda believe in Santa but know he's just a spirit.
