What would YOU vote for as the political "Lie of the Year"? Politifact.com, the non-partisan, Pulitzer Prize-winning site run by the St. Petersburg Times, chose "Death Panels", the phrase coined by Sarah Palin regarding health care reform. Read more here: http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2009/12/22/palins-death-panels-charge-named-lie-of-the-year/ Of course, Sarah doesn't think it was a lie! She told National Review in November, "It’s a lot like when President Reagan used to refer to the Soviet Union as the ‘evil empire.’ He got his point across. He got people thinking and researching what he was talking about. It was quite effective. Same thing with the ‘death panels.’ The term I used to describe the panel making these decisions should not be taken literally.” 61% of about 5000 votes case for "Lie of the Year" chose "Death Panels". Runners-up include a claim by Glenn Beck that John Holdren, a science adviser to President Barack Obama, proposed forcing abortions and sterilants on the U.S. population, a claim by conspiracy theorist Orly Taitz that Obama was born in Kenya, and a claim by Vice President Joe Biden during the height of H1N1 flu hysteria that “when one person sneezes, it goes all the way through the aircraft.” Any thoughts? Maybe we could vote the lie of the year if we could read the bills before they were passed. what about that lie was it included. "I will not sign a bill that has not been posted on the Internet for all to read" It seems to me that every proposal contains some form of government oversight on medical procedures and cost containment. President Obama admitted to a reporter that his mother would not be a candidate for a pace maker because of her age and the cost involved. You would not be allowed to receive that treatment even if you wanted to pay for it yourself. Just what is the role of the "Medicare Commission" in the new bill? This is such an important commission that Senator Reid wants to make it impossible for any future congress to change.
