i think that you cannot pick one over the other. we celebrate Christmas in the shadow of the Cross (which is Easter) and the other way around. Easter could not have happened if it weren't for Christmas.

I am a Christian. If we really believe in Jesus, the only thing that will matter to us is the fact that our saviour was born in the flesh. What is important is this. HE WAS BORN. Satan did everything to stop the messianic line. He resorted to many tactics to avert the Birth of the King of kings and Lord of lords. But Satan failed. All his plans failed. Had satan succeeded we will have no hope of salvation. We will be in Hell foreover. But the best thing is, God is in control of everything. God never allowed satan to triumph. His Only Son was born in the flesh. That is the most important thing we should know. We should not debate about the date. Though it is good to know the exact date, it is not the emphasis of the Gospel. We have a saviour. That is the meaning of the Gospel. We have a redeemer who took away our sins. We are saved if we believe in His birth, death, burial and resurrection. We have a saviour. Our saviour was born. That is what is important. The issue on the date is never an issue to our Saviour. I hope all will read the Bible, that people will know Who is and what is important to our true King - Jesus Christ. Amen.

I'd like to support your comment. Both these two celebrations are Christian celebrations with Pagan elements. It all mixed up. The history books will support this position. Try investigate Christmas' December 25, it is not the real date Jesus was born. It's a Pagan date. Then the powerful Catholic church combined Christian beliefs of Jesus birth with Pagan celebrations on December 25. And another one, the Easter celebration. If you will check the Webster's Encyclopedia, the date Catholics and most Christians celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus, is also a mixed up with Pagan. It is the exact date the Pagans were celebrating for their goddess Ishtar. That's why they got the word Easter. Have you ever wonder what is the relation between the words Jesus, Holy Week, Death and Resurrection and Easter. How come it is called Easter. It is closer to the word Ishtar, isn't it. And the date of celebration is the same, the one we celebrate in April. That's the exact date for Pagan's Ishtar celebration. Don't be offended because this is the truth. It is better to celebrate the spirit, than the traditions done by man.

Sarah, I am not a practising Christian but I was indoctrinated in the Roman Catholic faith and then again in the Protestant one.. so albeit these two events are historically gigantic.. I would think the more solemn one of Easter has greater impact and significance..

I really don't know if that means 'holier' at all..
It is a more profound and meaningful time in that Jesus dies and is buried and then is resurrected and goes to heaven.

The birth of Jesus is a story of Mary and travelling with Joseph to pay their taxes, and Mary delivered her baby( Jesus) in a stable on the way.... a holiday started to convert all us pagans by having a birthday party to blend in and take over the original pagan fests of soltice time of yore.

How do I chose?? Celebrating one's birthday is a fun happy thing( Christ's birth in this case) as opposed to celebrating an act by someone important..which could be quite dramatic with important repercussions.( Christ's last supper, his hanging, his burial, and his resurrection.)

Therefore it is Easter that has the greater solemn significance, in my recollection as a Roman Catholic!

I am not a Christian so mine was a guess. I picked Easter because of it be more solemn and more meaningful for the Church.

hmmm. We certainly have the two main things in common here don't we! Two nonChristians going with Easter...haha.. It's nice to just agree sometimes isn't it, just because we just DO!

So sad, you requested help from Christians, as if others don't help!

Christmas is the feast of the Sun ( celebrating the Birth of the Sun on December 25th )

Easter is identified with the Babylonian Goddess Ishtar ( the Pagan Goddess of fertility )

and Sunday ( sun + day ) is the venerable day of the sun according to Edict of Constantine A.D. 321

as you see, non of them is Holy, so the question about which of them is the holiest is baseless.

It's exactly what the Jehova's witnesses told me, and I have to admit that they're right.

Both days are holy and glorious. For me, EASTER is more meaningful because it represents JESUS' triumph after so much suffering. He has risen from the dead. Christmas is the start and Easter is the culmination which reveals GOD's glory all the more.

There is nothing in the bible about remembering Christ birthday and nothing saying its on the 25th of December. He did say to "do this in remembrance of me" at the last supper on the feast of passover which is connected with Easter Sunday the day the lord was resurrected.

While it's wonderful how God became man and dwelt among us, if all He did while here on earth was tell inspiring stories, do some miracles and dispense wisdom, He'd be like any other physician/philosopher. It's the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ that has made it possible for us to have forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life. Therefore, as far as I'm concerned, Resurrection Sunday (what some call Easter) is the holiest of days, and praise God for it.

I think that neither Christmas nor Easter can be the holiest day for Christians. I think that these ceremonies don't come from the Bible. In the Evangelical Books, I don't find that Jesus celebrated his birthday, even we don't know his exact birthday. Moreover, he was born as a normal Jewish and he was just baptized at the age of 30. The Easter day is actually the day of an Exotic Godness, i.e doesn't concern Christ.
Personally, I think that the holiest day for Chirstian is the death anniversary of Jesus. It makes a sign at the moment the Messian sacrificed to save the humans from the sins.

Easter.

Many people are born, many claim to have divine or otherwise special births, but Christ rose from the dead and walked among his friends. It was after he ascended to Heaven that the Holy Spirit came and filled them, making them know no fear from men. Know that death was just a short, maybe painful, transition to be by his side.
