Getting an African Violet to bloom

So my mom has had this african violet plant for a few years. It appears to be healthy, gets plenty of light and water (placed in the saucer under the pot instead of poured on top). It hasn't bloomed since she got it. It's grown. As a matter of fact, she had to transplant it about a year ago -- turns out there were TWO african violet plants in the planter. They're both thriving, the leaves are beautifully green and fuzzy. But no blooms. Any tips on how to get them to bloom again? Many thanks.

Hi wiccania, I have many African violets with ma and they generally bloom twice a year and the blooms last long for at least 3-4 weeks.I would suggest that you try repotting it with a mixture of sand, peat and crushed wood bark.Mine took almost two years to start flowering, but after that it has been continuously flowering.....they also multiply very fast and need to be seperated out and put in individual pots...all the best

hi wiccania it needs a slighty acidic soil so tell mom to buy some african violet plant food that has a little acid base to it. it will say african violet plant food on the label and feed it according to the directions and it should bloom.
