Department Store Attendants

I go window shopping most of my weekends. I don't usually buy stuff unless I really need to. I just like to look at them, test them, look at the price tags.. But I can't enjoy doing all this with the store attendants following me everywhere I go. It's like they're stalking me. I pick up some gadget and someone behind me is telling me its features, suggesting something better for me, something cheaper.. I look at some clothes and there they are again following me like a shadow. I know they are just doing their jobs and I don't want to hurt their feelings by telling them to leave me alone. But the opposite thing happens when you're ready to buy something, you look for someone to assist you and they are nowhere to be found.

Since you say you like window shopping and that you do it regularly, perhaps these attendants must have spotted you and are therefore following you
hoping that their presence there may make you change your mind about mere window shopping!

Lol, that seems reasonable. But they should know by now that their presence usually drives customers away.

Hi there nocturn98!
I know exactly what you mean. Been there, done that!
I hate it when they do that. I mean, when they follow me around. What is more irritating is when they would give you that look as if you were a shoplifter or something. I try my very best to be very polite. However, there are times when they can really get into my nerves. Well, there is no need for me to create a scene there so when I begin to feel annoyed, I just walk away.
I also do not like it when they suddenly just disappear when you needed them most. Oh well...

The one that irritates me most is when they bring you things that they think you would like when you've already said that you were just looking.

Hi Nocturn,
I know what you mean. I have had that happen to me also. Yes it is a little annoying, isn't it? And you are right. They are just doing their job. You don't have to hurt their feelings in order to get them to back off a little. I usually just tell them that I don't need any help but thankyou. I explain that I am just browsing and checking out prices for future reference. Usually they just smile and let me know where I can find them if I do need any help. I have also been in big stores like walmart and can't find a darned soul to help me out on the rare time that I actually do need their help. A couple of months ago, I needed a key made and it took me so much time to track someone down who could actually do the job which only took a couple of minutes.

L.O.L That has happened to me so many times! I used to go to Wal-Mart every Friday or Saturday and spend at least $100 every week before I lost my job and one of the employees acted like I was going to stel something and I said please I come in here every week and spend my hard earned money I AM NOT A THEIF! If I want something I will pay for it! And I always do. I just had to say it to her face because I was so mad so I started going to a different store for a while.

yeah, some shop assistants follow you all the way immediately, which is very annoying. Some do this in order to serve you timely; some are like flies sticking to you everywhere. A short distance should be maintained. I don't like them following me all the time unless I call them.

Hi nocturn98. I do know how you feel. I also feel a little awkward when someone is following me when I look at some items in department stores. Like you, I know that they are just doing their jobs. Perhaps , by telling you all about the features or the advantages of the item that you are looking for, you will be a able to be convinced to buy the item.

I know what you mean. I hate when they follow you around trying to be helpful but there not. Its just not comfortable having people follow you around when you are shopping or just looking around. I always tell them "I'm ok if I need help I will let you know." They then usually leave me alone. You are right though once you are ready to pay for the stuff or you need help no one is around anymore.

You are absolutely right in that observation on department stores. The funny about that is because of their actions, following or assisting or whatever? seems you are like a shoplifter or they are watching closely to your actions. Maybe that is their customer relationship. But, very disgusting especially to those possible buyers who really do not want to talk or seek their assistance because they know what to do already.
And when you have brought an item, they just vanished already. It means, it is a proof that you are not a shoplifter at all.. Funny but true happens to us.
