Do you just look at them and then leave them on your computer? Or do you print some and hang them on your walls? Share them in social networks life facebook? Or mylot? Maybe use them for Christmas and birthday cards? Or is anyone into microstock or "normal stock" photography?

Some of my photos I share on facebook, here or other social networks. Most of the ones I take at show riding competitions I put on my web-page so I can watermark them automatically. I am trying to build up a microstock portpholio but I think I should try to get accepted by more than one agency to see if I sell more. And possibly take more photos and check what sells most.

I normally use my own photos for Christmas cards etc, I think it is nice to pick a personal one if possible.

After I take them I upload them to my computer.. from there I go through the ones I like and I add some to My Facebook or Myspace pages etc..
Then the ones I think are really marketable or could be after some Cropping I will upload to Zazzle and make things with them and post them for sale..
It's a great way to earn extra cash from your hobby!

I'll add Zazzle to places to test! It seems like the ones that make money from selling photos online usually are registered a lot of places, or are professional photographers.

myLot reputation of 92/100. minx267 (2893)   ranked 1,283 out of 2,278 in photography  3 years ago

well you don't actually sell your photos to zazzle - you use them to create items that people will want to buy.. Like shirts, mugs, bumper stickers, greeting cards and sooo much more.. and then you get commission when your items sell.
For a little example of some I have a widget on my profile page of some of the items you can create..

I have kept a lot of the pictures I have taken and have some printed them out but most of them I have posted them either on Facebook or Multiply. For this 2010, I would like to keep them all in Multiply and a little bit personal because that is my wish for this 2010. I want to keep taking pictures and soon be able to print them out and keep it especially the pictures I took of my son.

Lot of mine friends who never used to take pictures before started taking pictures when they had children. It is important to save the memories, because suddenly they're all grown up :-)

I relabel and organize all my photos ASAP and burn them to DVD -- the new shoebox. Not only to back them up, but it is a more manageable way for me to access them for future use.

I dabble in microstock. I have sold a few, but not enough to quit my day job... yet.

I don't social network, but I do share photos in select forums I belong to or use them on my own websites. Some I copy to friends' memory cards for viewing on digital picture frames.

I have also kept a photo journal for years on DVD, sort of like a personal journal. I have a cheapie camera that I use to snap photos during my daily activities or travels. I don't publish it on the web, it's a private thing, but it is interesting to go back over the years and look at the photos I took and the stories they tell. Part of my legacy one day.

myLot reputation of 98/100. Torunn (1536)   ranked 67 out of 2,278 in photography  3 years ago

Oh yes, I have the DVD shoeboxes too. I have to come up with some way to organize them because I tend to forget what I have burnt and then I either end up with something that I don't have a copy of or double copies of everything. DVDs aren't that expensieve, but storing two copies on the same medium isn't really necessary I suppose.

I sell to a few online stock agencies. Only my nature shots though. It brings me in some money. For people, it is usually shooting my family for cash, or my daughter for fun. I may not be rich, and have fancy equipment, but I think I do an okay job.

myLot reputation of 98/100. Torunn (1536)   ranked 67 out of 2,278 in photography  3 years ago

Yes, photography isn't only in the equipment but also in the eye of the photographer. The father of a former friend of mine had really expensive gear but couldn't take a sharp pictures if his life depended on it.

Yes, good photography is often not expensive equipment but is in the eye of the photographer. The father of a former friend of mine had really expensive equipment, but he coulnd't even take sharp pictures with it. Everything was out of focus and in the wrong place.

You right, Torrun. We need an eye and a heart of photographer. Equipment is just a tool. That help eye and heart work better :)

most of the memory of my computer is used for keeping my pictures. they're so beautiful and useful that i can't afford to just leave them forgotten in my computer.

here's what i do:

-edit some when necessary because my camera isn't an SLR and i'm not a professional photographer.

-share them in social networks

-use some of them and make photo designs like collage or cloning myself. it's a lot of fun!

-print in variety of sizes and paper to give away to friends or coworkers for free. their smiles are more rewarding than money.

-use them in printing calendars, gift tags, invites (wedding, baptism, birthday, etc.) greeting cards, programs, notepads and other stationery designs.

-use them to make a movie with background music.

-print them as gifts, too and design them as beautifully as I can.

-print them per request of friends and they insist to pay me (why should i refuse? it's their choice and my price is cheap so they can save a lot.)

-print them and attach with snail mails, put on a frame, put on my mini-board or on my desk and yeah, stick them on friendship notebooks of kids who ask me

******

you're lucky because you can sell them. i hope i can do the same thing someday.

i love taking and keeping photos. i even scanned my parents' wedding photos in the late 60s. ^.^

myLot reputation of 98/100. Torunn (1536)   ranked 67 out of 2,278 in photography  3 years ago

You're really busy with your pictures!

I have a slide scanner too, but I haven't used it so much lately. I have plans about scanning some of my slides soon though, and maybe some of my fathers old slides. He has heaps of slides from the fifthies and sixties, and hopefully some of me and my brother from the seventies.

I sell some to my friends too, but it is sometimes difficult to name fair price. It is easier with people I don't know.

myLot reputation of 92/100. Cheiyen (236)  3 years ago

i totally agree with you about the difficulty in naming a fair price for friends. however, if they insist, i just give in to their preference. and right, people you don't know are best costumers because you can stick to your regular rate and can really do "business" with them.
happy picture taking!

I share most of my photos on deviantART.com. I have a lot of friends and followers on that site, and I get a lot of feedback on my art! I also like to share my photos on Picable because my photos earn money when people look at them! And then I sell prints of my photos and make money that way. I sell stock photos occasionally, but I've been moving more away from that and making more money by selling prints of my photos instead.

myLot reputation of 98/100. Torunn (1536)   ranked 67 out of 2,278 in photography  3 years ago

Picable is a new one for me, Mylot is great in that way, you find something new everywhere!

Thanks for the answer and happy mylotting to you!

I have some friends and cousins in different countries and, to them, I will send fotos from time to time.. It is nice to keep in touch this way and also to see the changes in people so that when you get a chance to actually visit, you are not shocked( as people change) My daughter and I send pictures back and forth..

I also take fotos of the neighbourhood where I live( for assessment purposes.. repair and changes and such) but also of landscapes and gardens and these I keep also a record of, as well, as sending the fotos to the people who own the particular gardens.. They like to have that also.

I am not joined to any social site, other than here, and do not share fotos that way, except certain chosen ones I bring to myLot.
The rest of my fotos are burned to dvds or are still on the computer.. I have also lost many 2 different times.. one with a socalled computer problem.. and one with sabotage.. and THAT is something heartbreaking!!

myLot reputation of 98/100. Torunn (1536)   ranked 67 out of 2,278 in photography  3 years ago

Losing photos is horrible! I've got two external harddrives and I try to burn the pictures on DVDs/CDs as fast as possible, just in case something happens to my computer. It is getting old and cranky and I'm a bit worried ...

myLot reputation of 99/100. fjaril (6097)  3 years ago

I bought the Maxter backup also now to be on the safe side.. I keep alot of material and store it a regular intervals but it feels good to have a continuous backup anyway!

I'll look which one is the best. And then give some fix or editing to the pictures. Only the best that I printed. I share them at social network if those picts suitable to the social network or there are my friends on the pictures and they agreed if I upload the picture. About watermark, yes some of them. No experience make them to be a card. :)

myLot reputation of 98/100. Torunn (1536)   ranked 67 out of 2,278 in photography  3 years ago

The easiest way to use your pictures as cards is to get cards in which you can stick the pictures in on one side and write on the other side. It's very nice for Christmas cards etc.
