Who is this Murphy anyway? How come he gets to decide that the buttered side of a toast touches the floor when you accidentally drop it. These were my thoughts this morning as I was sitting in traffic while I was already late for work. That the day I hit the stop alarm instead of the snooze button on my alarm was going to be a Monday. Thus I oveslept. And with the Monday morning traffic in full swing while I was on the road, it guaranteed the prospect of offering up a lame excuse to my boss when I come through the door. How about you? Any funny experiences that references Murphy's law? When was the last time you uttered the words, anything that can go wrong...?

Being a former pessimist i Always looked for something bad to happen. Now with the support of my best friend I don't look for anything bad to happen . But I never say " anything that can ..." either, I don't want to jinx anything.

I love hockey but I used the word jinx way before I knew the best sport on the planet.

The last time homer showed up at practice..sorry..couldn't help myself, and I think it really was the last time I said it..but I can do better and for you bounce I will give you a classic. This past football season murphy was like a freaking cloud hanging over us. We made the playoffs and drew a team 6 hours from home..that should have been our first clue, but we were still trapped in the euphoria of our 2nd trip to the playoffs in 2 years. We have team dinner and the boys decide to car pool in as few cars as possible to get to the bus..leaving in my driveway, the car containing, 6 helmets, 4 overnight bags, and the QBs arm pads..That crisis is averted, the boys get to the school, load all of the equipment and suitcases into one of the 2 trailers parked at the school and board the bus, the assistant coach arrives after the bus has left and hooks up to the trailer and takes off, without ever looking in the trailer. 250 miles later it is discovered he has the wrestling teams trailer..football playoffs in 30 degree weather and we have a trailer full of singlets..Thank the football gods we were all going up a day ahead so the boys could get some real rest before the game..there was time to correct this error. Then the defensive coordinators wife who still had 3 weeks before her due date, is convinced her water broke..3 hours later and after her doctor telling her not to be embarassed it happens to alot of pregnant women and this was her first baby..it was just a sneeze..we are finally on our way..35 miles from the motel, my husband turns to me and says.."Babe I don't remember loading your suitcase"..there was a good reason for that..that SOB named murphy had left it in my mudroom..A quick trip to walmart got me through the night and some very good friends not coming up until the next day grabbed the bag so we could show up wearing our playoff shirts. The field we were supposed to play on had turned into an unsafe quagmire forcing us to borrow a field from a neighboring school and to relocate not only the game but try and notify everyone making the trip where we would be..in an area so far north even our verizon map was being tested. The temperatures dropped to below 20, the wind picked up to over 35 and we found out that 8 of the kids on the team had eaten the shrimp from the salad bar where the team had stopped to eat on the way up. If it hadn't been for all my boys I would not have felt bad that we played our last game of the season that day.

Hi J. I almost choked with the caramel popcorn I'm eating while reading and laughing at your response. It IS a classic! I can't believe all the miscues you and your team had to endure. It must have been a Murphy day or something. I should stop laughing now. And stop eating, this close to midnight. Can't wipe the silly grin off my face.

Glad I could amuse you bounce..Laughing was all we could do after we found out about the bad shrimp..the look on the coaches face!!..One thing about it, when the seniors tell the story of their last game, they have such a good one to tell, the fact they lost the game, just doesn't matter.

Hey bounce! I am the Queen of Murphy's Laws! I am always quoting one of them! "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong"! That's definitely me! I can try to do something and no matter how hard that I try something will always go terribly wrong! It doesn't matter what kind of thing it is it just will go entirely the wrong way! So don't be upset! If I do drop a piece of toast it does always fall the buttered side down! And anything else like that will happen too!

Hi Opal, I think there is consolation in numbers. To think that these things also happen to everybody else. I wonder if we just all need a doze of positive attitude? Is there a 'Positive attitude for dummies' book available anywhere? Hail to the queen!

I dont know who Murphy is and that is what hurts becaus his law always seems to be working on me .I have a serious affinity for bad luck ,it seems that in my case I have had more than my case of mishaps ,it would take forever to tell you about it .Heck just this morning my bank called me to come in and clear up all my credit card arrears just when I was here praying that they wouldnt trouble me for this month so I could start paying next month
