Bareback or saddle? |
| |
| Do you prefer riding bareback or with saddle? When I was younger, I rode a lot bareback. Then I had a very nervous horse that would jump out into the ditch because of a butterfly, so I always used a saddle. Not only was he skittish, he was also quite tall (170 cm) so I didn't want to fall of. The horse I have now isn't skittish at all but when you trot it feels like you're being shaken, so therefor I always use a saddle. I want my stirrups! Plus, as I get older I get more afraid of falling off :-/ | | | | | |

| | It's much warmer without a saddle :-) It's interesting the Sinterklaas rides a horse in Holland. When I was in Vienna straight before Christmas I read a St Nikolaus versus Santa Clause discussion, and one person said that as Sinterklaas is the Dutch version of St Nikolaus and was turned into Santa Clause when he went over the pond, they're really the same person. Except St Nikolaus walks, Sinterklaas rides and Santa Clause has those weird looking reindeers. | | | |

| | A friend of mine always wanted a white horse, now she has one and always goes on how annoying it is to have a white horse! They get very, very dirty, but Sinterklaas would have had at least one good helper to brush it while he finished the last presents. | | | |

| | Yes, we are indeed very cultivated and cultural and civilized :-) The rest of Europe might think us a bunch of uncivilized, drunken Vikings, waving our swords at this and that after having had too many of the wrong mushrooms, but we're proving them wrong! :-) | | | |

| | I like to ride either way. I wont ride my gelding bareback, as he is only 3 and he gets skiddish sometimes, and he isnt gaited. I ride my mare bareback sometimes, shes more relaxed and is gaited so shes a smooth ride. If Im brushing her and feel like taking a ride to the pond or around the field I just hold onto her mane and hop up and take off with only her halter and some reins. She was an attitude about her saddle anyway. She breathes out and then the saddle wont get tight enough so I have to wait for her to take a breath in to tighten it up. | | | | | | |

| | So you have one of those too! My horse (gelding, old and grumpy) was a riding school horse for several years before I bought him so he knows all the tricks to drag out the time before you can start. He'll breathe in and he'll also somehow widen his mouth so you have to tighten both the saddle and the bridle. Then he'll do his best to run off once you put your foot in the stirrup, normally I'm around the corner before I can find the other stirrup :-) | | | |

| | Do you prefer riding bareback or with saddle? Neither, I have never had a ride on a horse before and I dont really think I will ever ride one now at the age I am. I dont fancy getting on board a horse because I just know I would fall off and pain just isnt my thing. | | | | | | |

| | I prefer Bareback . However, riding Indian horses bareback includes a lot of pain . :( Hope you all get the point. We had this Arabic horse at our farms long back , which actually was gianted and had a smooth back . Well trained and from one of the best breed , it never need any reins as well . It was fun then when she used to run through the shallow river waters... miss those days . | | | | | | |
