Oh how the mighty have fallen!

When I got the brothers, Willy and Khuay, Willy was the brave soul that nothing could phase. Khuay was the one who was very very shy and hid from everything. Soon, though, the roles reversed and Willy was the shy laid back cat and Khuay was the one that nothing would phase or scare. He became the "hero" cat in the house. No mouse, spider, or other object was too great for him to conquer. He even conquered the wood burning stove. The first winter he was with me he jumped up on the wood burning stove and burned his feet badly. He wouldn't go near it for about a month. Then, he decided that he wouldn't be afraid of it again and would walk behind it for his nice warm naps. During the summer months he would sleep on top of it. I soon believed that nothing would frighten Khuay...he had the heart of a hero!
Last night Bill and I had dinner at Chili's. It was just before the dinner rush and I watched as the hostess took a handful of helium balloons to the door. I suddenly thought that it would be fun to get one and attach a feather to the string and let the cats play with it. Yeah right!!! It didn't phase Willy, Murphy, Dinglebeary or any of the dogs. I took it to where Khuay was waiting for me to say hello and I was amazed...he took one look at the balloon, his eyes about popped out of his head and he started to shake in fear. He did a somersault off the bed and disappeared under the bed, with a great MEOW! He'd peek out once in a while and if the balloon was still there he wouldn't come out. I finally had to hide the balloon in the back bedroom for the poor guy to be able to rejoin the family. He crept out from under the bed, trembling like an earthquake and his eyes flitting side to side to make sure that the big blue scary thing was gone. I picked him up and cuddled him for about an hour. Willy drug the balloon out of the back bedroom this morning and Khuay's response was the same.
No more balloons for this house, the mighty have a horrible fear of them. Poor Khuay the Evil Knievel of the cat world.

That poor cat of yours. While I find the episode to be funny, it just goes to show that cats aren't always as brave as they look. Some cats are even a bit too brave. Almost reminds me of Precious and the banster of doom.
In our hose growing up, there were two stories. When Precious was still a kitten he would walk on the railing that protected the second story from the first. mind you this railling was very narrow. His paws were bigger then it was wide. Well he fell, and his claws couldn't save him. He came crashing to the floor, and was stunned. My mother raced him to the vet, and when she got him home, he hid under her bed.
When I came home from school, my sister had to pry him out from under her bed and I took him to my room. He perked right on up and became confertable. But he was werry of the banster after that.

OMG!!!
That is so funny!!!
We once had a party and had balloons. Sab happily played with one until she popped it, after that - no balloons!
Not that she was AFRAID of them, she just didn't play with them - she was a REALLY smart cat!
Wonder what Khuay thinks a balloon is... some evil round bird?
