"The Truth about Diamonds" is a 'fictional' novel by Nicole Richie. Yes! THE Nicole Richie. I just finished it a few days ago and although I wasn't into it QUITE as much as I could be, I enjoyed it thoroughly enough I would say. It's essentially about a girl named Chloe and her rise to fame.. And descent into drug addiction, too. Although it's a little bit sugar-coated if you ask me. She is a rich girl in LA, and one of her friends is Nicole Richie. It's weird to think that Nicole Richie (in real life) writes in third person to include herself not as the narrator or the main character, but a friend off to the side. It makes me wonder what the subtext is. In a way, I thought it ended too quickly and abruptly and out of all of the "disorder"-type books I've read, Chloe's "recovery" from coke & heroin addiction went by.. way too quickly and definitely with too few of relapses. And it's also been bugging me about how "novel" the novel actually is. I wonder how connected this Chloe character (and her struggles) are to Nicole Richie & her own life. They seem to have some obvious parallels in their lives, from what I can tell. Anyway, have any of you read this book? If so, what did you think?
