What's your favorite sports metaphor?

While I'm not a big sports person, I do find I use some metaphors from time to time. They seem to have become part of our normal language now.

Let's see, some I've used in the past are:

You/We knocked it out of the park!

There's no "i" in team.

And I like to say this, even though it's not really a metaphor:

"There's no crying in baseball!"

My favorite is " They beat them like a rented mule." It is fun to say and it is so descriptive.I loved it when I heard L.T. of the Giants say " Let's go out there and play like a bunch of mad dogs."

Not quite a metaphor, but Babe Ruth once said "you can't beat someone who does not quit. "

Vince Lombadi when trying to get his team to train harder said "fatigue makes cowards of us all."

He also famously said after an ugly loss "gentlemen, this is a football".

They flopped like a fish is one I picked up from one of the boys on the football team. I thought it was a funny, and not one I have really heard over and over. And the guy that calls our football games here use to have a few pet ones for our games.."run down by a herd of Mustangs" and "hit by the number 71 train" when my son was doing his job.
