What's your favorite sports metaphor? |
| |
| Do you have a favorite you use in your everyday life? Just heard on the radio today, talk about the Boston Bruins' game after their long west coast trip. On their first game back on the East coast, they were so flat, they couldn't punch their way out of a wet bag! That's one great metaphor. I think I'll be using it in my everyday conversations. Or do you like staples? Like, giving it a 110 percent, deliver a knock-out blow, on a level playing field, coming out of left field, etc. What's your favorite? How do you use it? | | Sports metaphors - favorite? | | | | |

| | Hi bounce! While I'm not a big sports person, I do find I use some metaphors from time to time. They seem to have become part of our normal language now. Let's see, some I've used in the past are: You/We knocked it out of the park! There's no "i" in team. And I like to say this, even though it's not really a metaphor: "There's no crying in baseball!" | | | | | | |

| | My favorite is " They beat them like a rented mule." It is fun to say and it is so descriptive.I loved it when I heard L.T. of the Giants say " Let's go out there and play like a bunch of mad dogs." | | | | | | |

| | Not quite a metaphor, but Babe Ruth once said "you can't beat someone who does not quit. " Vince Lombadi when trying to get his team to train harder said "fatigue makes cowards of us all." He also famously said after an ugly loss "gentlemen, this is a football". | | | | | | |
