Who Is Playing At The Super Bowl?

OK, forgive me, just a little play on words. I know the Who is performing during halftime at SB XLIV. (Don't get fooled again. *groan*) My question is WHY? Don't get me wrong. I like the Who. I grew up listening to them. But why would a English group want to play at an American football game, a phenomenon that generally leaves the rest of the world scratching their heads over? Oh yeah, our British compatriots are big fans of football too, but it ain't nothing like we play in the good ol' U.S. of A. (And if I'm not mistaken, isn't Roger Daltrey a big soccer aficionado?) I remember wondering the same thing when the Stones played the Super Bowl in 2006. I thought, "Cool, but... why would they want to?" Big bucks? Ah well... just musing.

The Who aren't exactly at the core of what's happening and who is hot in music today. It was an odd choice. As for the Stones, why wouldn't they? It's one of the biggest events that people all over the world follow.

Well as they just had Paul McCartney there a few years ago, nationality has nothing to do with it. It isn't even just money, but also the fact that it is a huge show, the place is sold out and is viewed by millions of people, one of the highest (if not THE highest) rated shows in the year, and even these big bands get a little boost in sales from being seen again or for some the first time. The reason they have went with classic rockers helps so the majority of the fans watching the Super Bowl know the music, and they aren't likely to do anything super racy like the Janet Jackson nipple snafu.

As you say - I imagine the $$$ might have something to do with it! That, and they get to play in front of an audience of, like, billions. That should feed the old ego, I guess. I'm English, I love 'The Who' and I love the NFL, so it's a winner as far as I'm concerned!

MJay hit it right on the head. It's about the money. Who (no pun intended) would't want to play at the biggest sporting event of the year? On the flip side, the NFL and the networks is sticking booking popular, old school bands for the Super Bowl after the whole Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake mess a few years back.
