People who give up smoking are prone to developing diabetes because they gain weight. Is this true?

They might gain weight but not so much that the change of getting diabetes sky rockets or something.

My dad stopped smoking 20 years ago and has had no complications with this. The problem is that people trade one addiction for another; so when they quit smoking they take up eating to fill that void. Taking the proper steps to living a healthier life style by not smoking, eating properly and increasing exercise, which all go hand in hand, should result in better health instead of concerns about health issues.

I dont know but I like it. IT means I can keep on smoking knowing that im actually taking care of myself. They say being overweight is bad for you, so I might as well keep smoking. Seriously though. I dont think its the fact that you stop smoking but that you replace it with something else that would probably be something sweet like chocolate or candy. So its not the fact that you stopped smoking, its what you do with your fingers after......like reaching for this Oh so delicious piece of chocolate!!

Actually I don't know. Just control yourself from eating sweet and giving up smoking is really a good idea because not stopping from smoking will cause you to lung cancer which cannot determine earlier than you expected. You can only know that you have a lung cancer if it is already at 70-90% percent damage. So I suggest for those who are smoking better stop it as earlier as possible.

healthbeauty no indeed smoking damages the p ancreas, not smoking will help. also it does not have to follow that you gain weight because you stopped smoking. Also those who get diabetes may be overweight but most also have parents or grand parents who also have diabetes, so it is not just weight but heredity also. Plus not all people who gain weight get diabetes either. So you cannot really just say all people who gain weight develope diabetes as that is just not true.
