Mel Gibson - Stay or Leave |
| |
| This one is difficult as we all love a bit of Mr. Gibson but his drinking and anti-semantic remarks have caught a lot of attention and also using that to shoot the guy down. I heard a soundbite of an interview on the radio he had recently which he defended himself and man was he angry. Swearing after the interview I guess, this is what journalism is doing just to get ratings. As I believe the tactics in degradation can make or break you. All in all it's sending negative vibes all over the airwaves. What's your take on Mel Gibson, will he be strong and stay or will they break him enough that he's got to leave? | | | | | |

| | In a sense, Gibson is treated a little differently in the mainstream than other drunken tirade-ready celebrities. However, Mel's a bigger star than most and should expect every single interview he has to touch on his mistake. It's the culture we live in. The same thing that makes you laugh will make you cry here. Mel relies on the public to go see this movie. Okay. For that he will need to market it. Okay. For that he has to do interviews. Okay. They are going to hound him about the incident. Not okay? Come on, Mel! You have to roll with the punches here. Celebrities always want it both ways. And don't get me wrong, I can't stand those stalking schmucks who hound celebrity babies at airports and in grocery stores and the like, but inquiring about Mel's famous blow-up during an interview is fair game. He should handle it with a little more grace or simply go away. Smile, answer the questions, and move on to your life and career now. This is a celebrity-crazed culture we live in. People just aren't going to let the past go so easily. We want the drama. | | | | | | |

| | With reality shows and more creative journalism happening mainstream, Mr. Gibson has to at least give a little, in turn I guess whatever punches there are on the table, he's showing that he's not taking it =P | | | |

| | When interviewers are out to get you and keep digging, it must be difficult to stay calm and serene. His face shows what he is thinking and it comes out of his mouth. He says it as he sees it. He is such a talented man and the people taunting him seem to have "a dog in this fight" by this I mean they are not impartial. I hope his sense of humour does not desert him and helps him through this. He has done the hart part, which has made him stronger. He could start making light of the interviewers and end up by saying: "Why don't we leave it up to the public and see how they respond to me being back and the new film" | | | | | | |

| | Yes, Mel has been in the business long enough to know what he's going to come up against. But I think at times, the irrelevancy of past acts is what makes the present shine or worse, drop. | | | |

| | Firstly Mel Gibson has been around too long to let the cheap tactics used by the media affect him in anyway, especially to the point of basically giving up. Secondly, to be honest yes what happened was wrong but who hasn't said or done something wrong. Mel is just a human being who thanks to his profession is in the public eye and because of this whenever he does something wrong it hits the headlines. It doesn't change my opinion of him as I can guarantee there are just as many famous people as well as regular people who have done much worse and never got the ridicule or exposure which he got. | | | | | | |

| | The exposure does give it another aspect to human perceptive aside from professional work. Psychologically we are just curious about what makes people tick in general and well, you're right to see that Mel is aware of that and he's giving it to them. | | | |

| | When, I think the older celebrities can have a little irrationality in them. If Mel does wind up being nutty, he'll still be a great actor. You can still have the chops even when you're older, take Jack Nicholson for example. Mel's just gotta learn to be cool a bit ;P | | | |

| | I still like Mel Gibson. Sure, he made a mistake and apologized for it. We all know people who have been drinking and said or did something they really should not have. I think the journalist questioning him was wrong to bring up an old issue during this interview and he deserved what he got. It was an unfair tactic, coming out of left field to Mr. Gibson. I think he is strong enough to keep on working and hang in there. He's not going anywhere. | | | | | | |

| | We all say silly things with the influence of alcohol. It's just remembering it while the other doesn't makes it worse! Well, I think he's going to be fine. Interviewers are aware that they have to deal with how he is already, they just want to push for more. | | | |

| | Hi thuhuong, I think that Mel Gibson is human and yes, maybe does have some issues. I really don't care. That is his cross to bear. I don't know him personally and his shortcomings do not affect me so it's nothing to me really other than as a human being, I hope he gets the help he needs if he needs it. He is an awesome actor and I love his movies. His personal problems are not going to change how I view him as an actor nor stop me from watching his movies. I hope he doesn't give in to the negative media but who knows. | | | | | | |

| | I don't feel sorry for Mel Gibson. First, celebrities can put limits on the questions they are asked in interviews. Gibson could have put the condition on the interview that he could not be questioned about "the incident" and then those questions would have been off limits and would not have been asked. Second, Gibson has been in the spotlight for how many years? He should be prepared to handle these questions. It really doesn't take much and frankly, his final respoinse made me think he was incincere. the film guy doing the interview has taken alot of criticism for asking those questions. I think if Gibson, and his public relations people didn't set any limits on the questions, then all is fair game and Gibson need to man up and deal. | | | | | | |
