Worse Class You Ever Had |
| |
| When I was in college I had to take some gen ed course and I choose astronomy as one. As all the other classes were filled up, I was stuck. The teacher I had was young and inexperienced but instead of teaching he was checking out the female students in his classroom. There was no discussions, no explanations whatsoever about astronomy. He basically was reading off the textbook. Thus, when we had questions he couldn't answer them. Knowing this, everyone just kind of went to class just to be there. That was one of the worse class I've ever had. For over 3 months, I had to watch him stumble and show his perversity. I mean I could have seen it in a positive way but I learned nothing and felt I wasted my time as well. Have you ever had a worse class or even classroom experience? Please share. | | | | | |

| | My worst class was probably German. I didn't have any friends in that class and the teacher was psycho! She couldn't teach for anything and there were some pretty odd people in that class. | | | | | | |

| | I feel your pain. It sounds like your instructor was a real tool. Not to mention that Astronomy is a pretty hard class. My worst class was in my freshman year. I had to take a public speaking class. I'd given a couple of reports in the front of the class in high school, but nothing like this. The class was full, and it was held in a lecture hall with about 150 students. So it's my first semester, I was in a new place, surrounded by strangers, and I wanted to crawl under my desk and die. We had an outlined plan of speeches we had to give throughout the course, but my professor was pretty sadistic. She did an exercise with us every class. She would pick a handful of students randomly, and put their names on the board at the beginning of class. These people would have to prepare and give a speech by the end of class. Then our professor and the entire class would critique it. It had to be five minutes long, no more, no less, on any subject we felt like talking about. On top of that we were videotaped so we could go back to see what was good, and where the speech fell apart. It was horrific! It wasn't even graded! To my professors credit, we all got over our fear of public speaking. On the first day when we heard about this exercise one of the girls in class spoke up mentioning that it seemed unfair. The instructor just smiled and said,"This is a public speaking class, what did you think you'd be doing?" That girl had to go first:) | | | | | | |

| | Wow, at least you're teacher was actually teaching, this guy was just stammering and making the time go so slooooooooow and making astronomy so uninteresting. But I think you've got yourself a teacher who doesn't take fail for an answer. It's either you pass or don't attend. thanks for sharing! | | | |

| | Astronomy wasn't my worst class, but it was definitely not what I expected. I was thinking oh I would learn about the planets and stars - which I did have an interest in . . . but it turned out to be more about formulas and it involved mathematic stuff (which I didn't have an interest in) - so it was rather difficult for me. The worst class I ever had was this Renaissance Art History class in college. I was an art major, and I loved art history . . . but the instructor was AWFUL. The man was truly an expert in this period of art, but geez he had such strong opinions about everything. It was his way or the highway. If we raised our hands to ask any questions, he give you the eye and answered in a tone as if we were stupid - and after a while anyone who dared to ask anything quivered. This quizzes were sooooooooooo hard - I don't know anyone who got a good grade on them no matter how hard we studied. It was a terrible class, but we couldn't really complain because he just happened to also be the head of the art history department - ah!!! | | | | | | |

| | anything that has to do with numbers, i really suck at math, In my school you wont be popular if you dont have a+ grades, How I wish I was studying in USA, so all I need to fit in was to be a jock just to fit in because I was really bullied by the smart kids because of my weakness in Math. As an elementary student, I love the science subjects built when it was turned into another computation subject on highschool I despised it more than Math. History was my Fave subject all my life and I was terrified to find out that there was no History class for the seniors and it was replaced by economics. | | | | | | |

| | Hi Albertwhisker I had multiple horrible experienced with math. I really suck at it and its beyond "getting my answers wrong once in a while". I am an complete idiot when it comes to mathematics. I did some research online about math dyslexia, since I have already been confirmed to have dyslexia, I wanted to know if there was anyone like me out there. And BAM! I found the dyscalculia forum. Well dyscalculia is an LD in mathematics. Anyway, I love science so much, but I couldn't do it because there's so much math involved. Talk about chemistry! I felt like I was in a ring of hell every time I was in class. I was clueless in class. Sooner I started to fall in love with history too. It is not as hard as everyone thinks it is, and it is certainly not boring. Hope you have a nice day! | | | |

| | If I already have ADHD, I thinks its gonna be depressing to find out that I have math dyslexia too but I seemed to have it because I cant handle math. I really found it painful to solve a simple equation. If I'm only good at Math, I would have fit in at school. Math is the reason why I dont want to go in college. | | | |

| | Hi Albertwhisker, I feel your pain. I still remember crying because I just couldn't memorise my time tables. You have ADHD? About college, I'm trying like mad to find a non mathematical course. I don't hav much luck with it :( However, i totally understand why you dont go to college because of math. | | | |

| | Hi thuhuong My worst class was certainly chemistry! Being a total idiot at math, O level chemistry is the last thing that anyone like me would want to take During the first year we had a horrible teacher. She didn't come into class, and didn't explain anything about chemistry to us. Since we knew nothing about chemistry, we always ended up copying from our reference books to complete homework. There are days she suddenly make us go to the board and complete chemistry equations and if we didnt do it correctly she'll say things about us that are not exactly pleasent to the ears. She's still teaching till today (I am out of highschool already) and we hear numerous complains about her bad teaching but at least now she's been trying to improve. I guess people to learn after a while to make themselves better. It was really horrible that we learned nothing, and I felt that I have wasted my time. After one year was over with her, we had another chemistry teacher. he's really bad. So it was generally 2 year's of being clueless, feeling like an idiot and failing in exam. I'll never learn chemistry again thanks to this horrible experience! Have a nice day! | | | | | | |

| | I have a three-way tie so far from only four semesters. Is that bad? lol. The first terrible class I took was called "Cultural Geography." I took it as a requirement, but it turns out that it wasn't a diversity course so I have to take yet another course like it...ugh. The professor was horrible, quite young, inexperienced, and just didn't want to be there, I'm going to assume, because he was absent without notice for about six times (six times!) during the semester. Technically, a student is only allowed to be absent 4 times during a semester, if over the limit, the student is subject to an F grade. Now, in my personal opinion, if a teacher is allowed to be absent 6 or more times for their class, then so should his students because it's not like anyone is learning much in this situation anyway, right? I hope someone got some common sense and fired his careless butt, so others won't have to deal with him. The second terrible class I took was "Digital Illustration 1," a class within my major. The professor was monotone and that irritated me a bit. She was hardly enthusiastic about anything...and it was ART for heaven's sake. lol. She also moved way to quickly when covering material--even though we all told her to slow down. She gave me headaches in class, along with the bright computer monitors from sitting in the dark for 4 hours. It was a weekly, 4 hour long class and I dreaded going to it. Third, Ah...third...I'd have to say "Color Theory." I was absent twice in that class--just because I hated going to it. The professor was very inconsistent. There was no way to adapt to his teaching methods because he was always flipping back and forth about what he wanted for homework assignments. He was very particular and I feared him. lol. Can't really blame him. I guess that's to be expected among many fellow artists. We all have some form of OCD... | | | | | | |

| | The worse class I have ever attended to in college was the HUMANITIES subject. It's not the subject that sucks but the professor. We paid the professor to sit and let us study for our selves and memorize that damn humanities book to get ready to report anytime that he wants too. This subject sucks and I dropped it wahaha. | | | | | | |

| | When I was in highschool I did one year of exchange in Germany, so I when I just arrived I didn't speak German and I had to take physics and math in German! It was so bad, so boring! and my classmates kept telling me to write down everything so I would learn German faster.. haha it was really bad. Afterwards I learned German but quitted those lessons and it was a very cool year! | | | | | | |

| | The worse class I had was my Sociology class with a very different teacher. I didn't like his class because he would never call me. It was the worse too because it was the subject where I got the lowest mark in all my years in college. I didnt like to study that subject and I was always absent. He even told me after the semester that I was suppose to fail but felt pity for me because I have to retake the subject but he didnt know its okay for me to retake that subject as long as he's not going to be my teacher. lol | | | | | | |

| | Wow, it seems like you had a teacher who had a preference for certain students. I've seen a couple of those and they like to call the ones which gives responses which you'll recognize and to their liking. I think that's wrong but I'm glad you at least passed as he softened up and thank goodness not another repeat. That would be double the pain. | | | |
