First of all I'm going to admit that despite every intention to force myself to watch every single minute of this long-awaited summit I was unable to see it all because my cable went off in the middle of the night before and didn't come back on until mid-afternoon, only to go off again intermittently for the next few hours. I saw part of it off and on plus I've seen a few replays of "highlights" but I know I missed a lot.
Anyway, there have been several posts by several different members here who have made the claim that the Republicans "won" and that they proved that they do, indeed, have a plan of their own. I'm sorry that something this important and urgent for many Americans should have to come down to a "win" and a "loss" as if it were a child's game! What I'm really hoping to discuss here in all sincerity is exactly what the GOP proposals were. I heard mention of the same things they've been talking about this past year but I didn't hear any details of how or why these ideas will work toward reaching our goals of affordable, accessible health care for all Americans while lowering the cost.
I KNOW many of you here are as passionate about this topic as I am, only on the "opposite side" and I know that you do your homework so I'm hoping you can fill me in on what I may have missed during the summit.
I also hope we can be respectful of each others' views. We already know there are disagreements among us here just as there are disagreements and philosophical differences between the political parties in Congress but that doesn't mean any of us are stupid, ignorant, or uninformed.
OK, seriously try to sell me on the Republicans' plan...or not since both sides are welcome!

I think you will find most of the highlights in the linked discussion:

Hee hee that is exactly what I got after listening and watching 5 hours of the summit live! I guess I was expecting too much...such as hard facts and projected actions.1 person likes this

Annie, as far as I'm concerned it was over when the public option was dropped. Without competition from the government, the premiums will never go down and health care reform has isn't possible. I don't know who won. Seems to me we all lost.
