Please Pray For My Mum's 90 Year Old Friend. She Fell Earlier Today.:-(  

Thank you so much for your wonderful response, it really means a lot to me...and especially Annie and her family.

What a sweet (and sad story at the same time) you have told about your great grandmother. Her dogs must've realised what was wrong and wouldn't leave her side.

Annie has been in her own house for a very long time and she will be reluctant to let it go if the need arises. However, she responds very well to people who care about her, so if that care is transferred (to a certain extent) to the medical profession, then we may get somewhere. Sheltered Accommodation would be ideal for her, in my opinion. This fall may make her realise that she isn't invincible and something has to happen for the better. Her daughter's husband is the bad seed if you like, in all this as there is no way she could stay with them as he is "afraid of death" and wasn't even there for his own mother.

Whatever happens; she needs someone with her now doesn't she? Poor Annie, she must hate being in hospital but I am a great believer in positives coming out of negatives so I'm hopeful it will be the case with her.

Aww I have tears in my eyes after reading that and thank for not being so "heavy" if you get my meaning. All the words you have written fill me with hope for Annie, they really do...and as for the dog avatar, is it your doggie? Every time I see it I want to cry...but in a nice way!

Yes, Haru is our dog, our pride and joy. He is bright, affectionate, sweet and loyal. On my son's bday, we sang and he did his part with a bark after each line. "Happy Birthday to you, woof, woof; happy birthday to you, woof, woof....
Now, Haru says, woof, woof or thank you for your nice words. Feeling like wanting to shed tears of joy each time you see him, I bet you must be a dog lover, too.

Hiya! Thanks so much for your kind words. Mum reckons that Annie won't be able to use her right wrist when she comes out of hospital because the injury is so bad...and being 90 I don't think it will fully heal anyway. This is what worries everyone because Annie even does her own cooking, everything really. It's going to hit her hard not being able to do what she did before but with the support of her family at least her mental state will be OK, she is very strong that way. As for me, I live 100 miles away from her but I have sent her my love via Mum, who will no doubt visit her in hospital at some stage once her niece can give her a lift up there. I will keep everyone posted as to how she is once I know more.

Hello there! Many thanks for that kind response, it is much appreciated. Annie is an incredible lady in many ways. She is "bright as a button" as they say over here so I'm hoping this setback won't make her depressed because mental attitude is probably more important than getting over the physical aspects of her fall. I am pleased she has a family, even though her daughter and son live in other cities. The pair of them are always by her side in times of need. I've never met her daughter (who is 70 years old herself) but from what Mum tells me she is an extremely kind-hearted, gentle woman so whatever happens next, Gayle (the daughter) will ensure her Mum is well cared for, either at her own house, the daughter's or elsewhere.

Well it's Mum who knows Annie better than I do. When Mum had transport my Dad used to take her round every Saturday so they could go shopping together. Unfortunately, she could not visit her every week from, say, 6 months ago because there is no car now. Having said that, though, this meant that her own relatives had to see her in order to do her shopping, which is what should've happened in the first place, to be frank. It is good that Mum is not being excluded from the latest "goings on" and I am pleased about this as she has been a very good friend to Annie, and continues to be so as she speaks to her every day on the telephone, and still visits whenever she can.

The spring is coming so I'm hoping the really cold weather is behind us now.

I know, it's terrible isn't it? I have visited Annie's home on a couple of occasions and I'm not kidding you, it's like a showhome. She has no help whatsoever as she cleans, etc, all by herself. There is not one speck of dust in her house and her bed is like something out of a showroom, absolutely immaculate! She irons virtually everything and folds each garment up before folding it and placing it on tissue paper in drawers, so there are layers of clothes separated by the tissue paper. There are some things she could not do even before the fall, like cleaning behind her sofa as she cannot pull it out anymore (she has help with this with her family) so heaven knows how she must be feeling now after this setback. I am hoping that, if she does go back home that adaptations to it will help her out. At the moment she just washes instead of having a bath (very thoroughly I might add) and Mum has often suggested that she could have one of those walk-in baths. Annie took no notice! Very stubborn lol. I reckon if she DOES finally listen to those who know what they are talking about I actually think her life will IMPROVE if she chooses to stay in her house, but in the meantime her siblings will have to look after her won't they? I'm afraid what my clairvoyant said some months ago is coming true. He wasn't negative (not allowed to be) but he did mention falling and breaking wrists and said that it was probably a friend as opposed to a relative. Instantly, I thought of Annie.

My neighbour found the remote control electrical extension sockets were very useful because she can have the things she wants plugged into them and have the remote at easy reach.
Its good for the light,TV and her heater too.
They put her a special key access thin on her door so that if she cant get to the door,any of us can use the code and open her door with the key.
She go that after had a little panic when she locked herself out but my other neighbour had a spare key to get her back indoors.
Sadly she is in the nursing home now so we might not see very much of her.
She is 100 and keeps falling as her balance has gone.

Awww thank you so much, that's very kind of you. I only hope she does not sweep aside people that want to help her. She has done this before but it has to be emphasised that her life will never be the same again after this fall as it is obviously a serious one and..like you said, it's not good for older people to fall as their bones aren't the same as someone younger.

I must say though, she has a tremendous diet. No TV dinners for her! She doesn't smoke or drink either.

That's good. She has probably lived until 90 because her diet is good and she doesn't drink or smoke. _Derek

Yes, you're probably right there! Mind you, an Aunty of Mum's smoked like a chimney and she lasted until she was 90 or so. It's all in the genes I reckon. Most of Annie's family have lived a long time and I think she has an older brother if I'm not mistaken.
