I need some help. I had a total knee replacement in June and everything went well. I was walking without pain or my cane until recently. I am having the most horrible pain in the bone beneath the knee. It even hurts to touch the area and push the skin towards the bone. I have had to start using my cane again and I don't even like the thought of getting off the sofa and walking. It also hurts in bed no matter which position I lay in.
I haven't fallen lately, and haven't taken any blows to the leg so I really can't figure why it is hurting so fiercely. On a scale of one to ten it's a 9. I've broken bones before and the pain is similar... Pain pills don't even help ease the pain. I hate like crazy to go to the ER and find that it is nothing. It would take a couple of months to get to see the orthopedic surgeon that did the knee replacement...and I don't think I could live with this kind of pain that long. Has anyone out there had a total knee replacement? Is this kind of intense pain normal???

I hadn't thought of misalignment. (It kind of makes me feel like an automobile and having the tire out of alignment) I've been having blood tests for another problem and no trace of infection has shown up in the tests so I figured that infection had been eliminated. I also wonder if it might be a stress fracture. It seems like all the buildings that are built in my area are on cement...and I walk a LOT!
Your response has made me very happy that I posted my problem on the lot...thank you!

Hey Loverbear this is serious! You need to get to a doctor asap. It could be infection or just normal swelling because your walking more now. You wont know until you have an x-ray. Please? do it today! call your doctor or go to the Emergency Room! If you let this go too long, all the work that's been put in to fix your knee will have been for nothing. If it goes wrong there's no way to make it better. Please dont let this go! dl

Hi Loverbear, it is not supposed to hurt! I had an aunt who underwent this surgery. Her one knee was replaced by one doctor, and the other by another doctor. The first surgeon didnt do a good job so she did have pain - and that was because of bad alignment. But you mentioned that you were alright for quite sometime. Therefore, this is something that has to be attended, pronto! I am sorry if ER is not giving you due attention. :( And sorry I am not saying it will go away after a few days. :( Do contact your surgeon at the earliest.

I have not had a knee replacement however, I would demand an appointment at the Orthopedic surgeon now. Explain the details of your pain and tell them you can't take the pain for two months. Its ridiulous what people have to go through to get an appointment these days. Seriously call them and demand to see them now. Good luck to you and I surely hope the pain is gone real soon.

I think It's awful to have that severe pain. If pain pills is no effect, try some herbal medicine that ease pain.Try also to face the reality of pain, exercise it or soak your feet on the warm water that you can stand it everyday. That will cure some of the pain & take some herbal drinks.
