CELLULAR PHONES in 21st CEntury....a LUXURY or NECESSITY?  

I also have an old phone, very basic but it does the job. I can't really understand half the knobs and whistles on the new phones these days, it seems to be just more to go wrong. They cost a fortune to buy and a fortune to top up, they are more a status symbol than a good old fashion phone.

You are right up to an extent that if you can make do with
your old cell phone, there is not any need for buying an expensive
cell phone, specially with those features, which are not of
any use to you. It all depends upon one's requirements and
if one can keep a ceiling on one's needs, it is all the more
better, because there is no end of our wishes.

Just buy what makes you happy not what makes others happy. I have N95 its my dream cellphone. I'm happy because I love photography. And 5 megapixel is what I love most in N98 8G memory.
Before I bought 6600 That my favorite cellphone at that time because of advance camera. Maybe after 5 years again I will buy new cellphone with best features in camera. I don't like to listen to music so for me its not important and even games.
I only like phone with great camera features.

You are absolutely right.It is just a necessity.No matter what features are put into it ,we are only going to use the phone to text and to speak over the phone. For certain important people they would need the feature of the internet of emails to respond quickly to important transactions.But basically all hi fi features would get bored out of the features and will ultimately end up calling and texting.

In my opinion, u should change ur phone to live in this modern world. When u r in a conference or in something with more important, and then u got a call in ur mobile, then almost all people will notice u and u 'd have to take mobile and reject or accept call. But the bad model u have 'd be attract everyone and they 'd think bad about u. So change that if u really have money to do so. Also older models cause some health problems and pollution.

I was using my old phone before. It has been with me for more than 2 years. I don't mind if I would change it or not as long as I could still text, call and receive texts and calls. But last year, I had a new phone. It was given by my parents as a gift since I graduated college. I have my phone with me for 1 year now and its okay with me not to change it. There are people who are updated with technology and would really like to change phones from time to time. There are some who are using 2 - 3 phones. It looks like a luxury to them.

During the late 90s and early 2000s, having a mobile phone is just a luxury. It's like a social status that says you belong to the hip and upper class society because you have a mobile phone. Now, it is a necessity. Even with all the ways of communication available now plus all the social networking that we do, we still can't leave home without our mobile phone.

I do share the same outlook of practicality regarding cellphones. I think that most phones now are just for luxury, far even from being practical at all. Technology is supposed to make life easier by making work faster and more efficient but that doesn't seem to be the case now. Some people just can afford to be trendy, well it's their choice. If only we could be more contented.

for my cellphone is a necessity but the more feature it provide the better, so I don't have to buy camera, MP3, Video camera, GSM modem, Its already provided by my cell phone and its more practical to use and carry. I think it luxury or not its depending on your need.

It's really based on each individual's need. If you're happy with your phone, stay with it. That's one of the reasons why I've changed my phone. Little over 2 years ago, I had a change of poisition at my work. With this new position came more responsibilities, one of them was having to travel a lot more than I used to. I needed a phone with email & internet access. So I went out & bought blackberry. Few month ago, it started acting up so I bought another one. If it wasn't for work, I would've stayed with something very simple.
