Do you believe in witches and wizards? are they among us?  

There is a sign in our town where witches were once burned.
I went to visit the prison museum in King Lynne once when we were camping near there and they have a reconstructed witches burning post.
I think witches and wizards is just another way of saying wise men and women.
I mean I know it isn't what everyone thinks of by the terms but if you think about it, wise and wizard are very similar words.
Magi in the old days were wise men and magi and magician are also very similar words.

Many things which were unexplainable from long ago(considered to be magic) are not anymore.
Science has taken over as the new magic.

My duaghter would take issue with much of what you wrote here. I am a bit more light hearted as I am not as devoutly entrenched in the faith as she is. But, she is a "witch". She is a follower of the pagan religion of Wicca. Forget everything you ever heard in movies about "witches".
In my country, people were persecuted for witch craft, hanged, tortured, entire communities divided and plunged in to hysteria over it. People were often accused of witch craft if they seemed a little different, if they used herbal medicine, if they treated people psychologicly or spiritualy...almost anything out side the puritin christain churches belief of the time was considered "witch craft". You have no doubt heard about the Salem witch trials? Salem isn't that far from me and I have been there a number of times. It's a beautiful small city, wonderfull community of people and plenty of followers of the various pagan religions. If you ever make it to the U.S. I highly recomend visiting there. There is a lot of really hoaky silly "haunted" and "witchy" stuff for the tourists, but there is also a lot of history and some genuinely good and welcoming people. There is a coven down there that I have spent a little time with and attended a few of their summer solctice ceremonies. Incredibly nice people, very warm and friendly. There are very young and old alike, people from all walks of life...from carpenters, to Doctors, lawyers, even a few bikers who are members...people of all sorts. they are just people who follow a particular religion. That is all a "witch" really is.

I know several witches. They are the nicest people that you can meet. The myth that they are evil is simply not true. They harmonise with the seasons and work for good not ill. They don't wear pointed hats nor stir potions in a cauldron. They are also very attractive women - not a wart in sight! LOL.

the history i heard about witches is quite different...
its not that they have magical powers and things,they were like doctors in olden times and they worshiped nature,and the reason why witches are said to fly around in brooms,is because of this ritual that they do,they gather atop a small hill on a full moon night with a broom in their hands,people seeing'em started to think that they flew on the brooms all the way there,but its not so,they use the brooms as a part of the ritual,and they return home late after midnight,thats why people think they are evil and that they can cast spells...

I don't believe in witches and wizards. Humans just create them because every once in awhile some thing unexplainable happens.

Oh yes i believe there is a witches and wizards in this world... I could say there are plenty of them in my country of indonesia... In indonesia we call them as "DUKUN"... They can do as they want to hurts or playing someone life...

yes my friend i have history of witches because in my in place butuan city i have a friend that his grand mother is a witch and hi said to me that the witch is have magics that hi had never use because if he have to use it became a bad witchs.

Yes, witches and wizards are in existence, they are agent of destrction and instrument of devil (sata) just believe in God ou will overpower them

if you're really interested in the development of modern Pagan Witchcraft (as opposed to Traditional Witchcraft, which is folk Magic, and can be practiced in the context of any religion or no religion at all) in the UK then you should read The Triumph of the Moon by Prof. Ronald Hutton. it's an academic book, but still very readable. it has a lot of information about Ritual Magic groups, like the Golden Dawn, Freemasons and so on and where their influences came from and the people that helped shape them into what they are today. as well as that, how the modern perceptions of deity and festivals came about.


not many people would call themselves a Wizard. some people in ritual magic groups may call themselves a Magician though. although most Magical Practitioners would describe themselves as Witches. male and female alike.
