This question comes from my daughters friend, she wanted to know if you dont believe in God or what the cross symbolizes then you should not wear it. What would your take on this if you are an Atheist.

An atheist quests after God, may be more than a believer does. A believer might say I believe in God, not because he is sure that God exists, but because he might be trying to save the trouble of going out and searching Him. The atheist on the other hand is searching for God by denying his existence. God is more likely to reveal Himself to an atheist, rather than to a believer. Deep inside, the atheist knows that God is somewhere out there, but he simply wants to be sure. He does not believe in having a blind faith. There is no harm if an atheist is sporting a cross, for whatever reasons he might be doing it.

Good morning, This is indeed an interesting question about an Atheist wearing a cross, knowing what it symbolizes. I believe for the most part that we would have a tough time trying to figure out why an Antheist would even think about wearing a cross. But, maybe we can look at it this way. If a believer in God, personally knew an Atheist, which I don't know of one, who was wearing a cross, this would strike up an interesting conversation. Of course, the believer should be lead by the Holy Spirit before ingaging in such conversation. Maybe the Atheist is trying to get attention by wearing the cross, it's just a thought. But, I also think that for us who truly believe in a living God and know how precious and dear the cross is to us, we would want to look at it as an opportunity to witness. Who knows but God, over time that an Atheist maybe convicted enough to start believing in the living God because a believer took the time and opportunity to show him/her the true light. I hope this helps. Have a blessed day.

I too wonder about whether the atheist is truly an atheist and wears a cross, what is the point. Most of the atheist are very vocal about the fact that they dont believe and wearing a cross would certainly lead Christians to believe otherwise.

I'd say it depends on what the cross means to the person he may not believe in God, but the cross means something to him maybe he had lost someone he loved, who was a Christian so he would wear it I believe there is Creator of everything and everyone I don't call it God of god I can't give it a symbol and I have never found a symbol written about this being each person calls it differently I'm not sure if that means I am atheist, but I don't wear a cross after all a cross is not only used in Christianity

I too think if you are an atheist and dont believe in God. Why should you wear cross which is is of great meaning for those who believe in God. So I too agree that an Atheist should not wear a cross because it has no meaning.

as a matter of fact... Christians actually discourages the wearing of crosses. It could be and offense for idolatry icon...whatsoever i forgot the term ahaha i think it was the same offense on Madonna on her concert when she was wearing a cross while doing her uhm... song and dance .... Wearing of crosses are ok if you are really sincere with you faith upon wearing it ... if your intention is just for fashion of whatsoever it's not nice ehehhe... always remember, don't wear a cross if you are putting the Name Of God in bad image... if you don't want to be like what happened to Madonna... i think she was excommunicated or... i think i forgot what they did for the offense... i might sound not serious but I AM SERIOUS!! -^^- peace be with you

It does not make any sense to me that an atheist wears the cross. If one does not believe in a God therefore won't use any symbol that might make him remember the existence of a God. For me it would be a mere contradiction because the cross symbolises my God that came into this world as a human being to save me from my sins.

I guess if I was an atheist (which I am not! ) and I liked crosses I could wear them although they are not of sentimental value. I guess it wouldn't be any more than wearing a star or a heart! Just an empty symbol..

Hi, Pastorkayte, Wearing cross, or god symbols, makes then believes in God. It's a respect to God by wearing . If some one is atheist, then why would he/she wearing such god symbols, if they don't belive. There is no meaning to wearing that for atheist.
