im broken.. im beat.. i have hardly any strength anymore at all.. and im in a near constant state of pain. docs cant find a freakin thing wrong with me. tests are all negative.. specialists shakin their heads at me. blahblahblah i know ive been idle for quite some time. depression.. lack of motivations.. world upside down.. a stint in the hospital and the loss of a child. it takes its toll. i used to work out like a bit of fanatic. till my body screamed and id push juuust a bit more to test my resolves and staminas. i cant anymore.. ive tried. so my brother has proposed visualizations as a means of gaining some strength back to be able to start physically working out slowly again. im well aware that visualizations and/or meditations has been well documented to heal by boosting immune systems and fighting diseases.. but retoning and strenghening the body itself? just by a really good daydream? i dunno.. time will tell. im willing to give it a shot at any rate. the other day i went for a bikeride inside my mind.. then a walk down a lonely street.. then a jump in a pool to swim for a while. will it do any good? how long should i give it before i should see some results in returning to my seemingly forgotten badass primal self? whatre yer thoughts on the successfulness of such a science experiment? do you have any experiences in such that you can share? please do..

As I have morphed into a beached whale over the last ten years, I still don't recognise myself in the mirror. I still think of me as slim and vital and able to run and do everything with ease. If that's how I constantly see myself, shouldn't that come to pass? It ain't happening kiddo. I was about your age when my knees gave out and it's been all downhill from there. I think it's an age thing.

dont be so quick there dear tickie tock. im only 41 , not 80.. and i shouldnt feel like an 80 year old. thus far.. the meditations/visualizations have helped a GREAT deal.. even so far as to help me get some energy/strength back enough to go playin in the dirt the other day starting to put in a flower garden its only a little thing, and i may not be bangin out 250 crunches in 15 minutes like i used to just yet.. but i AM better, and WILL get there!! baby steps *nodnod*

LOL...I didn't mean it to come out that way. I mean, our bodies deteriorate as we age and that's a given. At least you are still young enough to realise that if we don't take care, the rot sets in and we become our aches and pains. I read somewhere a while back (I think it was Reader's Digest. Details may not be specific) about a basket ball coach who wanted to test the creative visualisation theory. He took 3 of his teams; the first he put through a rigorous training regime for several weeks. The second team he set to watching videos of games being played where their team had won. They watched the same games over and over during the same period as the other team were training. The third team did nothing. When it came time to play the first game of the season, the team that watched the videos won hands down...by a long way. I just wanna know why it isn't working for me. Grr.

do you actually focus and put the energy into really visualizing and SEEING yerself work out? BEING stronger? i set aside time everyday to do this.. meditate on it.. put all my energy into the thoughts.. and thus far, it IS working

This visualization thing will work if you believe it will work on you. If you are just doing it just for trying it and its effectiveness might not be truly work on you. I guess being on a depressive state right now is what really affects you physically and countering that is not approached physically but psychologically. That is why visualization is recommended. I think that one could be done more effectively when you are with a therapist that can assist you with it. You can also try hypnotherapy but this usually is working if you are convince this will work on you.

ive used visualizations and energy channeling to heal injuries and wounds in the past.. so im a big advocate on the mind being able to heal the body.. just a tiny bit skeptical on the actual results of toning muscles etc. but i spose if it can work on one, itll be very affective on the other as well. time will tell. and as with everything i do.. itll be done wholeheartedly.

Hey tess~ I like the idea of the "virtual workout". I would like to know if it actually could work. I have been having serious problems with my knee and ankle and if I could actually convince myself that I am exercising maybe when I actually do go out walking they wouldn't hurt as much! It is definitely work a try. The say "mind over matter"! I think that it is a great scientific experiment worth trying. Let me know how it works out! I might give it a try myself. I do know that I have thought about being in the pool down in Florida when I want to relax sometimes~ So maybe it just might work!
