Has the word "SORRY" lost its meaning?

Nowadays people utter the word Sorry with even meaning it. "Sorry" the word is an expression of deep regret. While the word has immense potential to heal broken earts, end disagreements and cool people dow, it will be effective only when it is heartfelt. It is often easier to apologise to a stranger than someone you are close to. At the same time, if you are convinced you are rtght, sorry is probably the last thing you would want to say. In these situations, keeping silent is the best thing to do. That way, you't end up saying something you don't mean. Do you agree with me and would you put down the reasons in which you would say "SORRY".

Hi avani, Now people are using the word frequently. I don’t have the habit of using the word always; if I use then I really mean it. If somebody steps over our foot then asking a sorry without having any sincerity, I really hate to hear this. I agree it happens by mistake, if I did the same then I will touch the foot of that person instead of asking a sorry and I know it can pass some great feelings. (the other person may not feel bad on us and will understand the mistake without asking a sorry).

That is why Indian culture is the best you do not need words like "Sorry" to really mean it.

hi avani the word sorry has still retained its identity and its meaning have you ever tried saying sorry when you are not mistaken knowing that the mistake is of the person to whom you are saying it, the thing is we cant see the effect by our eyes indeed, it gives us a nice image. but thats not the best part nowadays people have become so short tempered that they start hitting the people just for small reasons like getting just getting pushed in the crowd or for making little noise in fromnt of someones house. at these times the word sorry shows its imact very clearly and acts as a rescuer the person who has an habbit of uttering sorry every now and then dont usually fall into problems.

For a simple mistakes i say sorry, it comes as it like that. If they say it's ok or never mind then i forget that then and there itself and i move. Sometimes they look at me angry then that incident will long last in my mind. If anybody say sorry to me, i say its ok, then i can see smile on their face. The word Sorry makes two strangers friends. It happened to me when i took my 5 year old son to a children park, one small boy poured water on my son immediately his mother came and said i am sorry my son doesn't know. After that incident whenever we go to that park we meet there. Now become friends.

That is what I mean as soon as the Mother said SORRY for the wrong done and it was heartfelt. There are lot of people who would not say it and then there are some people who go and repeating it and that makes you feel it is just for the sake of saying it. Good to know that you'll are friends. The word SORRY can heal wounds and words are just a small part.

I can notice the same thing too people tend to use the word very often and its more like losing its meaning. People should be aware that when your using such a word your sincerity should be felt deep inside and not just lip service .For if your really sorry the one your telling the word will be able to understand and feel you being sorry ;)

well, i always say sorry whenever i feel that i make mistakes... that is just my habit... the word "sorry" will come out from my mouth as soon as i realise that i had done something wrong to somebody... but i won't say the word "sorry" that easily... if i feel that i haven't done something wrong, then i won't say "sorry"... take care and have a nice day...

Dear friend, May be saying too much of sorry could give less meaning to it to those who have heard it lot form them. Still I hope at least they have expressed their fault through that word sorry. May be those who use sorry at right purpose and giving it a value of using it for right fault may be much better.

i think it have, most many first of all cant admit to their own mistakes they seem to try to flip it to make it look someone else fault. to me i see people these day have less respect for others, not knowing the real meaning of family, it is so sad to see how so many people are these days.

Its like "LOL" - used too much to have any real meaning anymore. However, I think it will only get worse. The way to tell if someone is actually apologizing will be the wording and the tone of voice. For example: Someone bumps into you because they weren't paying attention. A mumbled "Sorry" isnt very convincing, but stopping and helping you pick up something if you dropped it and saying, "I'm so sorry!" is much more convincing.

I think that word "sorry" actually doesn't have a certain level of honesty depth. It's all about the mimics and the emotion that it comes with. Some people just throw a plain "sorry" at you without even looking in the eyes. If the person is really sorry, you will see it from his/her face and eyes and the manner he/she apologizes.

sometimes its a simple impulse when you bump or step on someone's foot, i say sorry right away. But better to say it with feelings and with all your heart.

it is just such a commonly used word, many commonly used words have lost there relevance because of how much they are used. Just another word in the english language that is used.

I have a bad habit of saying sorry too often, for example if I bump into someone, I say "sorry" when a simple "excuse me" would do. However, it is better to say sorry, please, thank you, and all those other polite phrases than not at all. :)

Well for me, sorry is heartfelt word. So i often use this word as i always feel like i shouldnot hurt any one. Unless it is not from heart, it has no value or no meaning at all, just words from mouth!

Words don't lose their meanings, people show what they truly feel or think the way they say the words. It also depends on the particular scenario, people who really love you and realize they made a mistake, you can tell they mean it by the look in their faces or eyes. I hope I do not hear the word at all, meaning there won't be much reasons for it to come up between me and the others... :)

I suppose there are lot of reasons one of them could be stamping someone's foot.
