Salvation Army - good or bad.  |

|  My late husband was in the military and spent time in Korea where he said the Red Cross always got credit for being on the frontline handing out coffee etc to the troops. He said what it did not saay was that they expected a donation for what you got. The same thing happened in a military hospital he was in and a VA hospital too. He said the Red Cross wanted a donation but not the Salvatio0n Army. At Christmas time we always carried a pocket full of change to put in any Salvation Army collectio0n bucket and our children were taught to do the same.
It will not be done any more. A friend who has very serious health problems and has to be on an oxygen concentrator whenever she ays down has been very ill. This person has Crohns, acute diabetes, chronic asthma and serious heart problems. Because of her low income etc. her electric bill added up. The company she has is terrible amnd they were threatening to shut off her lights even thoug her Dr. sent a letter telling them this should not be done because without electricity it could create seri0ous and even dangerous health problems. The office manager paid no attention. She called the Salvation Army nearest to her home in Illinois. The head of that particular one was rude and told her to join a church but he wasn't helping her. Little did this man know that although at present because of her health this woman does not attend a church but she could probably tell you more of what is in the bible than this man could.
In my opinion this is disgusting and this man should be out of a job. What's your opinion on this.

| |  Here in my little rural burgh, the SA provides services taht other charities cannot or just does not.
They are able to reach into a part of the community heart and bring out the altruism that was always there. Sure, they promote their brand of religion, but not at first - - they are just Christian soldiers meeting some needs taht may have otherwise been harder to meet.
My vote? SA is GOOD.

| |  My sister worked for them when she was doing her social work internship. Frankly, in some ways they benefit people, in others their condescension and downright abuse is pretty bad. I am sure it varies from place to place, but in general they are the last ones on my list, should I need help of any kind.

There is one religion will help even you are not part of them. this the CHURCH OF GOD INTERNATIONL IN the US there, asian courtries european countries you can then the Church of god International. My husband died in 1993 but I still donated and our children who are now adults and their children alwayd donated. After what this man did we will NOT donate another penny to them. | | | |

| |  Hi us2owls, I think your friend had the misfortune of talking with the wrong person. Sometimes such people get into all organizations. I knew a person who served in the Second World War and would never give money to The Rea Cross. In most cases the Salvation Army are there to help anyone. They are not perfect of course, but I don't often hear complaints about them. Blessings.
