For the ladies living alone, are you well protected? |
| |
| First off, let me say, I am not starting this discussion to have a 'battle' over guns, gun laws, etc. I was just curious as to how many single women own there own protection? Do you keep a weapon at your home? I was born in raised in Texas and as such grew up around guns, hunting, etc. I do have my own 'protection', I feel sorry for the idiot that would try to break into my home, I will defend it. If you don't have a weapon, how do you protect yourself and your belongs should someone try to break into your home, while you are there? | | | | | |

| | My wife is afraid to have a gun ready to use even though I have 5 of my father's hunting guns. From what I understand more people are killed from their own gun or one of their family members than from outside guns. Maybe that would be different if intruders knew that no one was able to have guns in their homes. I did hear a story the other day about police going into the wrong home and the guy thought they were robbers so he started shooting at them and the police shot back. Can't remember if they killed him but they must have only wounded him if he was able to tell the story. | | | | | | |

| | I have a respect for firearms, as I was brought up around them. One of the big problems is people that have one, loaded, and hide in a bedside table, etc. Their children have never been taught about it and that's when accidents occur. | | | |

| | I would feel really sorry for the poor sod who would break into my home when I am present. I am fairly good at holding my own. I reside in a rather safe part of Canada so no, I do not own a gun for protection. We own guns, registered and are used for hunting. I am curious, as I have heard that if you do use a gun on someone who has trespassed, can you not be charged with aggravated assault or even murder? I know here in Canada, there was a break in and the person got hurt. The home owner was charged! I found that utterly ridiculous. If I were in a rough part of town, I am positive that my choice of weapon would be a fierce guard dog that will attack on command, trained to hurt, bad. In my own home, I do have security measures as well. Those of which I choose not to publicize for obvious reasons. Even though my small Yorkie pup is an awesome watch dog, on duty 24x7, she can hardly hurt anyone at all much less enough to deter them. | | | | | | |

| | If they are on my property, and I am afraid for my own life or my families' there is not a court in this country who would send me to jail. As for being worried about that, I'm not, as I would notify the police before or quickly after if that ever occured. Also by letting them know I have the weapon, they can notify me when they are on scene, so there is not any confusion as to who is arriving or knocking at my door. We also have a concealed weapons law, where as if you take a class, go through the training and get certified you can carry a concealed weapon with you at all times. | | | |

| | Well I guess if you can carry a concealed weapon, legally and have to use it then there should not be any legal repercussions. Thank you for your comment. Interesting information, that's for sure. If I lived in Texas, I may want to take the class and protect myself with a weapon also. I know of some American friends who do carry weapons legally and for protection. | | | |

| | I own two guns, one is a 22 semi automatic rifle, the other is a 380 handgun, neither of them are loaded right now. I have too many grandkids in and out to have a loaded gun right now. I used to keep it loaded. I am a good shot with the rifle, I don't like the handgun, it was my hubby's gun. | | | | | | |

| | I'm sorry you had those bad experiences. If you are interested, contact your local police department, they can inform you of gun safety classes and shooting classes. Respecting weapons and knowing about them is a priority with me, but I did grow up knowing that it is a weapon and it can kill. My daughters have also grown up with knowledge of weapons. | | | |

| | At this time I don't live alone but if I did I would have my dog to protect me. If anyone came near me that he didn't know he would definitely take care of them. As for owning a gun I'm deadly afraid of them so there is no way I would have one in my home. As much as they can protect they can also cause innocent deadly circumstances that would have been avoided if the gun was not in the house. However that is just my opinion and everyone has the right to have a gun or not. To each its own. | | | | | | |

| | It's not that I like the idea of killing someone, however, I will protect myself, my property, and my family if need be. It's kinda like insurance, you have it but you hope you never have to use it. In this day and time, I wouldn't trust leaving my doors unlocked, particularly if I was away. | | | |

| | I too have key deadbolt locks on the doors, actually they were already installed when I moved in. I also have a dog, that can sound much bigger than she actually is, and would alert me to anyone or anything being around. And good point, you always need to be very aware of your surroundings, especially when out shopping alone or in the evening. | | | |

| | I live alone and i would say that the place where i stay is safe coz theres 2 gate before your reach the building. first gate is the main gate where every one can enter including cars, second gate is in the main building and theres a guard thats why no one can enter if you didnt live here. besides i choose the first floor just near the guard, and theres also a rotating guard every hours to check if theres garbage outside each room or if theres suspicious in the place. | | | | | | |
