Omnia 2... anyone?  email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 99/100. ahgong (3967)   ranked 82 out of 1,659 in cellular phones 2 years ago

I recently got myself a Omnia 2 to replace my old htc.
And boy am I impressed with the phone. The more I use it, the more I am falling in love with it.

First of all, the OS, windows mobile 6.5 is a much much better improvement over the last windows CE PDA I used. I think that PDA was running on windows mobile 3, if I remember correctly.

Second of all, the GUI is so much more responsive than its predecessors. The bigger screen also makes for bigger buttons. And having thick fingers, bigger buttons on the screen really makes typing a breeze!

Then the applications. Woo~hoo~~~! I love the new applications that are available today. From navigation tools to compasses to media viewers, you name it, they have it! And the best part of it is?!? Almost all of them can be found FREE!

I am definitely in love with my new phone. Two of the apps I loved so much, I wrote about them here:

ha ha ha... when was the last time you bought a new phone? or anything electronic?
And did you fall in love with it even more after you started to use it?

ahgong,

Good on you!

One thing about these PDA phones that I just cannot accept is that, end users will just have to keep buying up new phones to have the upgraded versions of the mobile OS.

To me, these processes are just wasting and detrimental. The latter being that we will have our security compromised when the old OS cannot handle the attacks due to the vulnerabilities it developed over time. Going online with these outdated phones are just suicidal.

I just wish that there would be more being done for the upgrading of the OS or that the OS could used with the old PDA phones. It is just being fair and safe for everyone.

So, until that day, I suppose we will all have to wait and see.

Have a nice day.happy

Hello skysuccess

I don't buy PDA phones just because they are almost very expensive, and I don't think I won't spend a lot of time on a cell phone which I think its basic functions should be only call in and call out, or more, text messaging.
But your comment does sound reasonable to me, going online with outdated phones indeed very dangerous, you provide me one more reason that I should not buy PDA phones.

I am very happy to hear that you have Omnia 2. Last year I bought Omnia 1. I don't know the difference between Omnia 1 and 2. I am very satisfied with my cellphone. And I am sure Omnia 2 has better updates. That means to say it's better than Omnia 1. In fact my Omnia 1 updated the ROM and therefore currently my cellphone is also Windows Mobile 6.5:) I have kept a lot of software and games for it. And I think they can be also used in your cellphone since our cellphones are quite similar. If you want, please PM me and I would really love to share them with you:)

That is good to hear. What games have you?

So far, I only put in batti for the battery indicator, the compass and the navigation app.

I also have an app that shows the memory usages at one glance. Quite useful when you want to see where you can save your files to and wonder where the available space is without having to go thru many layers of clicks. wink

Omnia 1 and Omnia 2 have many differences. The size for one is a very obvious difference. The camera is the other. OS wise, if both are on winCE 6.5, there isn't much diff. Maybe the support for more video formats with the Omnia 2 is more compared to the Omnia 1.

haha =D It seems that u have re-found your childhood toy again huh?!?! haha =D

I'm just like u, when i first got my iphone!! I was so excited and begin exploring around on how the phone works etc.. It's partly because it's my first touch screen phone, and thus i was really curious.. lol =D

Even for now, i'm still very much into it, as there are so many applications coming out and i'm also on the constant update too!! hehe

BUt i do agree with u, having a large screen will be better for ple with big thumbs or fingers!! haha =D That's where the iphone loses out!! haha

Actually the Omnia2 and the iPhone is very similar is size.
The iPhone GUI is still the best so far.

But the limitations in installing free apps on the iPhone and some applications that i want to run being limited to windows only, I have no choice but to buy a windows phone.

And boy am I surprised at the improvements that windows has done to their mobile platform.

But in terms of usage, GUI touch and feel, nothing can yet beat the iPhone! lol

I bought a Omnia 2 very long time ago, it was cool. But after I changed my job and changed to use a very simple cell phone, I tend to buy cell phones at reasonable/cheap price.

HelloMickey,

I get what you mean and like you I hate to, however, as I am on the road most of my waking up time, I just need to have these extra functional mobile phone.

I am using a Blackberry and so far is both stable and secure, where I could check and reply my emails and go online with my office.

happy

Well, the Omnia 2 is new to me. And I am finding heck of a lot of fun using it!
ha ha... I know what you mean about paying a premium for the higher end phones.
But with a contract tied to the phone, the price of the handset itself is pretty low.

And with the Omnia 2 being an older model compared to the ones that are launched recently, I got a pretty good bargain for it.
heh heh... lol

I have a samsung Omnia sgh-i900 its very ugly. :D I'd like to have an Iphone but it's expensive though I could still afford it, I want to try this Samsung Omnia 2. I've seen in a shop, and it's huge. I think it's way more easy to type in this Omnia 2 than the original one.

myLot reputation of 99/100. ahgong (3967)   ranked 82 out of 1,659 in cellular phones  2 years ago

ha ha ha ha... if you are just comparing the Omnia with the Omnia 2, then yes, it is huge. But if you are comparing the iPhone with the Omnia 2, their size is roughly the same.

myLot reputation of 48/100. danverxxcore (260)  2 years ago

Nice to know. Maybe if I'll have no choice I'd have Omnia 2 hehehe

Wow. I have been actually considering Omnia as my first multimedia phone. But chances are, I cannot afford the price. So I just stick with Nokia 5800 xpressmusic. I am actually dreaming of owning a windows mobile phone because I really think that is a very nice phone. Does it have a complete flash player support wherein, you can login to a flash player enabled website? Because sadly, my phone cannot do it. Like for example the website of the movie 2012....or the farmville game on facebook.

myLot reputation of 99/100. ahgong (3967)   ranked 82 out of 1,659 in cellular phones  2 years ago

Hmm... so far, I have not really encountered much problems with the phone, be it as a PDA or a multimedia phone.
I rarely surf to flash intensive sites. But I am willing to give it a try if you can provide some links.

With windows mobile phones, I am sure there are apps that can be installed to handle the flash content that you are referring to. wink

I just bought my omnia 11 last month, and like you I am really enjoying it. I haven't figured out the widgets thingy though, but that is oot a big deal anyway. I have home swcreens that are empty is all. w00t I like the swype feature the best as I have used it to post in here. It really works well I think. I am having so much fun with the phone, that I am glad I bought it. I even put skyfire browser on it as it supports full flash and java, and it works really great. I even set up my email on it too, so I know when I have email just in case I am no hoem, or I am doing something else and don't check my email right away. I do go on the internet with it from time to time, and I think the pages load up fairly fast. I had researched the phone out before I bought it and I am so pleasantly surprised on how good it works. It is just like having a computer in my hand. I am glad you like yours too. We both can have fun now can't we? w00t Take care, and have fun with your new phone, and happy mylotting. happy
