My previous boss used to call me all the time and I was not happy about it. I worked at night and when I had finished my work and I went home and I usually went straight to bed. Sometimes my boss called we when I was already in bed and he said to me: "One of the other workers didn't show up today, could you please come back to work, it will only take a few hours. Please do it, I really need your help and I have no one else to call" I usually accepted to help him, but I was not happy about it. When my husband and I moved to another part of the country I quit that job and my new boss is very different, and he doesn't call me all the time.

This situation is more common, I had a boss that used to do this too, and I usually accepted because it meant more money. However if a boss called me to ask me for help with something over the phone, that would mean that I wouldn't be paid for that, so I would get angry. I'm lucky to have no boss right now :).

my boss once called me at 2:00 am when i was in a deep sleep i have to get up and take his call. he called just to remind me of a meeting that would start at 9:00 am and i do not need to be reminded since i am already prepared for it. that incident really pissed me off.

Oh my caliya!!! 2 am? Just to remind you about the meeting??? That sucks!I mean you are having a good night sleep so that you will wake up early and refresh with the said meeting and here he is disturbing you... Why not just text or call you early morning? It shows that Your boss only thinks of work work and work... He seems not contented and relax unless he or she gets assurance from her/his employees...

i think i would be able to deal with it, especially if i am expecting a call. usually we do need to cal each other up for updates and so on. i would not mind it as much but if i am already sleeping and the issue is not important i would be annoyed.

Since I am not working now I don't experience that kind of situation. But it seems that your boss is unprofessional. Bosses should respect the private life of their staff and not treat them like their obedient servants where they can demand for info after office hours. You have the right to refuse taking his calls next time.

Well actually that happens zandi458... There are really boss like that... One of my officemate said before, when he is on his day off, he never answers his phone when he sees that the call is work related. But he sees to it that all his work are done and finished so that there is no any reasons why somebody from the office disturb him during his offs. Off days are for ourselves and our family.

Hi. bettydeng5. Yes, a boss that I worked for used to call me to come in to work when I was off. A few times I acted as if I wasn't home. Then another time when I could not make it to work, my boss actually offered to pick me up on Sunday's just so I could come to work on that day. I guess to her and to other employees, I was not such a bad worker after all.

For me, i think it's ok, i worked for a few months last year. When i was working, i felt very fufill and productive, so it's fine if i have to stay overtime.Maybe for you, you've worked for so many years, you are just tired, i think.

Hi bettydeng5. One of the bosses I used to think he could call me after work about work related issues but I put a stop to it straight away. Once I finish work that is it and I do not want to bring it home with me in any shape or form.

I am not too because that time is not for work anymore it is for my family... And the hours and days I spent with work is too much already... 2 days of no work (saturday & sunday) is not too much to ask... I honestly don't want to be disturb during those times especially when I am spending precious moments with my family then here comes my cell ringing because my boss is wanting me to check on something... Well extending hours of work is not a problem or reporting on off shift too as long as I know it before hand, or I was informed... I don't really want that I am somewhere out there and my boss will hunt me and ask me to do this or come where ever because of this and that... Well, I can only allow that if it is really that urgent... as in very urgent. Actually my boss before is like that. He wants me and my officer to check on something even if we or on off.. which is for me is... it is like working still on day off??? So when is our rest? I know it is nice to think that the boss trust us and giving us more responsibilities but then again, it is not my company and I deserve some peaceful environment too, away from the stress of work.
