I like both types of litature like Grapes of wrath or Tale of two cities or Red badge of Courage. I also like the trilogies of the vampires series and other supernatural books.
Thanks and have a great day!

Classic literature is already classic. The literature had survived the test of time. It was relevant during the time it was written and it is still relevant at the present time. Modern literature is still proving its worth. But there are great works that could live on forever. That is why there are many bestsellers in New York.

Hello eileenleyva,
Thank you for your reply. I agree with everything you said here. Yes, I wish I had more time to read these stories on the New York Times list.
Thanks and have a great day

I like to read modern literature cause I could relate to it. I classic ones but they didnt really interest me. That's why I always look for something new that I read cause it will help me in a way that I will be learning from what I am reading. My sister reads both literature, classic and modern and I wish I am as wide as a reader as she is but I am not that. I really like how she is as a fan of reading.

Hello p3ks626,
Yes, we do have our favorites and sometimes I do get into a rut on reading the same type over and over and should stretch my mind more and try to more stories from many different writers.
Thanks for the reply

I've only read a few classics that weren't required school reading. Out of the classics that I read in school which was dozens and dozens of books, I only liked two. To Kill a Mockingbird and Pride and Prejudice. I've read a few classics outside of school and once again, I've only liked a few. Watership Down and The Hobbit. I don't really like the majority of what the world calls "classics". I don't like stories that end tragically or are completely reliant on their symbolic nature. So I prefer modern literature.

I am definitely a Modern novel-person. I absolutely love novels that have satirical or pessimistic comments about modern society (e.g. books by Chuck Palaniuk, Douglas Coupland or Denis Johnson).
I have tried reading books from the "Classic" section at my local library but I just find it too hard to stay interested, I think it's because of the writinf style or something.

I prefer modern literature, though I do like some classic novels. Some of the older novels I like are The Picture Of Dorian Gray, The Great Gatsby and Of Mice & Men.
When it comes to modern books, I love suspense, thriller and mystery books. I like authors like Kay Hooper, Dean Koontz, Dan Brown, James Patterson and Catherine Coulter. Kay Hooper has a Bishop/FBI Special Unit series that I really enjoy. When it comes to Catherine Coulter I only read he FBI series, not her other books. The other ones are more of romance books and I'm not really into that.

Hello Kel1483,
I like the Great Gasby and the Kay Hooper sound like a fun read and that I would not get bored. I like excitement and intrugue in my books. Something that keeps me guessing or make me ponder and wonder what will happen next etc.
Thanks for the reply and Have a great night

I love them both. I am a huge fan of Jane Austen, but like you i love vampire series and other supernatural books. I recently started reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies...so i get the best of both worlds.

hi unique16,
if i had to pick one category i would definitely pick classic literature most of the time, the writing is more thoughtful and distinctive. i mean, you definitely would be able to tell the difference between j.r.r. tolkien and jane austen just by reading one paragraph.
modern literature to me seems more profit driven and sometimes by reading one paragraph you can't really tell one writer from another. for example i couldn't tell the difference between judith krantz and daneille steele if it wasn't for the cover page.
