Has the Volcano ash cloud from Iceland affected you in anyway. |
| |
| Today airspace over the UK and most of Europe has been completely closed down due to a volcano errupting in Iceland. This has obviously affected thousands of people. There are fears that that the ash could cause engines on planes to shutdown, hence why the airspace has been closed, no planes flying at all. This is the first time I have ever heard of this happening. Have any myLotters heard of this happening before and has this affected you in any way. ie holidays delayed, buisness meetings delayed etc. It would be very interesting to know. | | | | | |

| | It is abit worrying, I dont plan on flying either, but what does concern me is 'What goes up must come down' ie the ash. The volcano could and still is errupting for days, this would have a major impact on countries economics especially with the economic depression that we are all still struggling to get over. As for airlines not refunding passengers I think this is totally wrong and a disgrace. Without passengers the airlines would be out of buisness. | | | |

| | Most airlines here have given people new tickets for whenever the flights open. What they've said here is that the ash isn't dangerous when coming down. It's not worse than the dust from for examples roads etc. Not sure how thick it'll fall on Iceland, but the rest of us shouldn't really have any reason to worry. I'm not very worried for financial losses yet I think, the wind usually changes, maybe it'll shut down Canada and the US tomorrow. Iceland's in deep trouble financially already, not sure how much worse it can get there. I'm curious about for how long it'll go on though, apparantly it can last for months as it's directly fed from the North Altantic ridge 20 km down. Several months with flight problems will be a problem. | | | |

| | It just goes to show how many people from all industries are being affected, and not just airlines. I dont think anyone really knows how long this may last, sadly there is absolutely nothing anyone can do. When mother nature gets nasty there's no stopping her. lol | | | |

| | There has been accidents before because of volcanic ash, as planes can't fly through them. The dust ruins the engines. Eruptions like the one on Iceland has occured several times before, but not really in modern time I think. Last time it happened on Iceland was quite some years ago, before everyone relied on planes etc to get around. Volcanic ash at 7000 meters won't affect riders or boats :-) I wasn't going anywhere today, luckily, all flights over Norway closed down around 10 today. Apparantly the ash from Eyjafallajökul has reached Oslo and Bergen today, so you could smell it. Not so here, the ash has gone further south. All flights are shut down tomorrow too, I suppose it'll be the same over parts of the rest of Northern Europe. The Norwegian prime minister is sitting at some airport in the US I think. Quite weird. | | | | | | |

| | Most of the flights are still cancelled today, Friday, and the Volcano is still erupting I believe. This could last for days. Hopefully not though as I have relatives who are fly out on holiday on Sunday, not very good for them having to worry about whether they will get away or not. Thanks for your input, have an ash free day. :) | | | |

| | They say it'll be cancellation at least til Sunday here, especially for south-going flights and when you live in the middle of Norway, most flights go southwards :-) Helicopters and flights with sick people etc have been given priority. John Cleese is apparantly on his way to Bruxelles from Norway in a taxi. Everything's possible when you have money to pay for it, they guessed it would be at least 30 000 NOK. (£3000) | | | |
