I could be rich - and cure cancer?

I saw this headline - Dog Slobber Could Be the Next Breakthrough in Cancer Treatment I have 4 dogs. 1 being a Bull Mastiff, which slobber ALOT. I got so excited, then I read the article. While I can appreciate cancer research, that was just plain mean to do to me! The Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) and the Van Andel Research Institute (VARI), developed the Canine Hereditary Cancer Consortium, to understand why people and their pets get sick. The study used saliva, blood and tumor samples of dogs volunteered by private pet owners for testing in hopes that by studying canine cancer, oncologists can determine the cause of human cancers. "Rare diseases in humans also show up in dogs. By studying the DNA of canines, we expect to more quickly discover the genomic causes of disease and more quickly find ways to better treat dogs, and people,'' said Dr. Mark Neff, director of the new TGen-VARI Program for Canine Health and Performance. The testing will be animal-safe, and is approved by the American Kennel Club and Morris Animal Foundation. Funding will be supported by private donors, and by a $4.3 million dollar federal stimulus grant. Cancer is the cause of death for nearly 50 percent of all dogs older than 10-years-old. "We're proud to be part of such an innovative approach that fully supports our mission of providing total lifetime care for pets, and one that will offer hope to people and dogs who are suffering from these illnesses," said Phil Francis, executive chairman of PetSmart. Maybe you will not be rich in money but if anything comes of these tests there could be people who become very very rich by being cured to live a long healthy happy life.

To be honest now that I have shown what a nice caring human being I am. I do not blame you at all for wanting to earn some drool bucks I would also like to earn drool buck but it would take weeks if not months to get any significant drool from 3 chihuahuas.

Just imagine it.... all those people who only read the title instead of the whole discussion have probably been rattling the food bowls to get their dogs slobbering into any container they can lay their hands on for selling on to the local pharmacy. Thats a pretty misleading headline isn't it. I bet a lot of people had their hopes briefly raised to then have them come crashing down again. Pretty cruel really

I really cant bear dog drool but, if it was all as simple as the headline suggests, it would win hands down over conventional current treatments! (Thanks for BR)

lol no actually, they are using the slobber to study why dogs get cancer and they hope that it will in turn help find out why people do.
