| What's up with Wal-Mart? They say they are into recycling but the receipt I got yesterday was seriously like 14 inches long and I only purchased two items! I'm like, how is that helping save the environment???? | | | | | |

| | It would be a simple step in saving a little bit of extra paper which would in turn save more trees. It's small steps like this that we as human beings need to start making for the future because the world is continuing to become more populated and we need to try and conserve our mother earth as well as be able to provide for ourselves and our children. | | | | | | |

| | It would seem a small step for improvement! If you think about how many customers who get receipts every day even if they cut it in half they would save so much trash in our environment. | | | |

| | All trees used to make paper were planted to be made into paper, they aren't killing forests randomly for this. At this point complaining about trees being cut down for paper (especially in North America) is equivalent to complaining about the potatoes that are cut up to be made into french fries. | | | |

| | True, because we are now planting forests and replenishing. But that's not the only concern. It adds to the huge garbage heaps and all the ecological problems from that! | | | |

| | The biodegradable paper? Trash "heaps" or landfills are secured in a fashion that eliminates any chance of contamination into the ecosystem that would cause it harm, and the gas that emanates from them can be used to power electricity, also typically afterwards the land is re landscaped and the landfills are turned into parks or golf courses that are perfectly safe, and do not look even in the slightest that there is garbage beneath it all. Recycling paper is actually more damaging to the environment then it is to cut down trees and making new paper. It needs to be processed and deinked which leaves chemical residue from the chemicals used to make paper reusable. | | | |

| | Maybe Wal-Mart is saving but not using plastic bags. Not about the receipt. | | | | | | |

| | True... I guess, but if their concern is for the environment then the paper should be a concern as well. | | | |

| | I agree it's kind of ironic because they're selling some recycledbags that are supposed to help nature. I found Wal-Mart I bought about by the items in bought a really really long ticket. Most of it was really unnecessary because they wear s Wal-Mart advertisements and messages that you don't really need. and Wal-Mart is not the only store that does this , this has also happened to me at Best Buy. What other stores had this happen to you? | | | | | | |

| | Yeah, there's all this extra stuff like websites (which are okay and don't take up a lot of room) and surveys and such... just too much! | | | |

| | Well it's Wal-Mart, they will claim most anything to ensure people shop there... though I am guessing you wanted a more thoughtful answer, the simple point is to make money. Parts of the receipt paper have ads for other businesses and they pay Wal-Mart to be on there, the longer the receipt, the more ads they can have on there. And for the record, paper is the best item to have used. The resource is easily replaced, and is legally required to be replaced when paper is made. In fact when there is a surplus of paper used, more trees are planted in anticipation. We are NOT running out of trees in the world, North America has more trees today then we did several generations ago. Paper is not made from the Rain Forest or any other essential ecosystems that are endangered. Just FYI. It is still hypocritical of Wal-Mart saying they are so environmentally friendly and then pulling that, but hey look at all the double, tripled, or more plastic wrapped items in the store, they are hypocrites for many more reasons when it comes to the environment. | | | | | | |

| | The trees are not the main concern. We throw away more garbage than any other nation. We are making huge heaps and running out of space for our trash. That's something we need to cut back on! | | | |

| | See my last paragraph then, I mention that bit. And actually the original post IS about paper, which goes back to trees. | | | |

| | It's probably just Wal-Mart's way of saving on stalking potential sales, of tons of bathroom tissue... ...and if that's not "roughing it", then I don't know what is. cdrxo | | | | | | |
