Is the current craze of watching 3d movies taking movie making to new high  

I actually hate 3d movies, since i found using the special glasses a little disturbing for the sight. I also think that all this attention to the visual effect is quite detrimental to the quality of the scripts and of the plot.
There was a time when people were able to do great movies without technology, now often a lot of visual effects is used to compensate the uglyness of the script and the absence of a valid plot.
There are some genres of movies that have of course gained a lot from visual effects and 3d but i am afraid that too often the directors think about those things instead of what really makes a movie great i.e. dialogues, acting and an interesting story.

I am not too crazy about these 3-D effect movies. It did not look good in Avatar. It was worse in Clash of the Titans. Maybe it is only good with animated movies like 'Polar Express' and 'How To train your Dragon'.

Toy Story is coming with updated versions of all the originals and Shrek 4 will also be 3-D. Maybe I will go and watch Shrek.

As much as I agree with the other respondents here that sometimes (or should I say most of the time) they special effects try to cover the bad acting or faulty plots and producers just make it 3D just to earn more, I think it also ups the film making industry. Clash of the Titans was filmed set to be on 2D but since Avatar made huge profits it also was made into 3D which is bad. I watched Clash of the Titans in 3D and for me it was a total waste of money since it should just have stayed in 2D.

But if the producers would really think of its viewers and have a wonderful story, great acting plus a wonderful 3D effect then piracy could be destroyed because as far as I know nobody can watch a pirated 3D version not unless you have that 3D glasses and stuffs you need. You would not want to just download a great movie with great 3D effect and you would be encouraged to watch it in theaters.

We must admit that technology has brought movies into new heights. We have gone a long way from the Charlie Chaplin era. And 3D is part of that change. Whether we like it or not we have no choice but to embrace it. For me 3D is still a long way from perfection. Avatar was the best yet that came out from 3D. The only thing that bugs me from 3D is that u have to wear those annoying glasses. Why can't the cinemas make the cinema itself 3D. Then that would be a great step forward.

Well whether 3D really does become the next era in movie making will depend on Hollywood and how they handle it. As has already been shown if done properly a 3D movie can work but when used as a gimmick to offer a couple of scenes which jump out of the screen it is a waste because it doesn’t add anything to the whole experience, it doesn’t help tell the story it doesn’t enhance the whole movie it is purely a gimmick, a wasted one at that.

So basically Hollywood need to get a grip of things and rather than churning out movie after movie which use it purely as an added gimmick to get people to turn out to the cinema they need to start making movies which use it properly to enhance the whole movie, that is when it truly will become the next era in movie watching.

They also need to stop retro fitting movies which have been made in 2D to appear as they are 3D because it doesn’t work. Making 3D movies requires a whole different approach and it shows when something like “Clash of the Titans” gets a retro fitting and making it just that gimmick which doesn’t work.

The worse thing is that it is a good technology but if Hollywood keeps on using it as a gimmick there will eventually be a back lash from the movie going public who will grow tired and disappointed of it.

I think it is yeah. More and more films are going to be made in 3D now of course because it's more interesting and it can make you feel like you're actually in the movie. And of course there's 3D tv's coming out and everything so yeah 3D is obviously something really huge.

Personally I love watching movies in 3D because it just feels so real and makes the whole experience a lot more fun.

sometimes 3d can be cool the movie would have to be made into 3d from the begining of production with the mindset of always being 3d other wise by creating it after the movie has been finished makes it look like pore 3d effects

maybe now it is the right time to start a new era.
i just watch one 3d movie- avatar, i feel well about the 3d movie

3D films are nothing new in the movie world, they have been in production for years. Sadly the quality and costs involved in making these films was far too high then. With the constant progression in modern technology it has become more affordable and of much better quality.
3 Dimensional films will be the next big trend for cinema lovers for awhile to come.
Hopefully script writers and directors can take full advantage of the extra depth they can now add to blockbusters.
