Do you expect to have peace and quiet in an apartment? |
| |
| If you are living in an apartment, whether it is sound proof or not, do you expect to have peace and quiet throughout the entire day? The reason why I ask this is because, my downstairs neighbor says that he wants it to be quiet as if he was living in a house. The manager has told him, that this is no house and that he will hear some noise. I don't understand why can't he just move into a house. If he does, he will have all of the quietness that he would like. The only noise would be him and any other people that are living with him. The only way that he will hear any noise, is if he has his door wide open or, his window open. Or, if he just decided to just step outside. Why can't he understand that if you are living in an public apartment that it will be noise of some kind? And even when it is curfew time, you will still hear noise. People stand outside after 9 p.m. around this apartment complex, and they make noise by talking loudly. And doing whatever is against the rules here. I am inside or either gone when all this is taken place. I can comprehend that it is not going to be all so lovely and quiet here, when I want it to be. I know that there are many private apartment complexes that are not like this. But it is very quiet and peaceful. Someone is always outside around here, and I know that he is aware of it. People stand outside his window talking a whole lot. And that is noise. I wonder how he can deal with this? Since he is so disgusted from the noise that comes from above him, which is our apartment. He expects it to be so peaceful here, but that is impossible, with the type of apartment complex that we live in. What is your opinion of this? | | | | | |

| | Sorry - but when you move into an apartment, unfortunately you can hear noise 24 hours a day, seven days a week. I just moved out of an apartment where the walls were so thin, I could hear my neighbors baby kitten meow! So you could imagine all the things I heard. If your neighbor wants a resolution to this problem he should either move into his own home or a retirement community. | | | | | | |

| | I personally prefer a quiet envirinment as well and I'm expecting my neighbors to be considerate enough. But I know this is too good to be true so I just accepted the fact that this is a public place and to some people, noise or loud conversations will be normal. This way, I'm not bothered if I hear my neigbor enthusiastically discussing things on top of her lungs or doing a singing session starting early in the morning til late at night. I'm pissed off at times, especially if I'm not feeling well but most of the time, I don't care. But if I think it's too much, I discuss it with the landlord/landlady so that they are the ones to take the proper action. If your neighbor wants a quieter environment, then it should have been one of his criteria when he was looking for an apartment :). | | | | | | |

| | Before I stayed in an apartment, I already had it in mind that I am not gonna have any peace and quite at all. And yes! I was right. There were so many people in the apartment where I stayed so I asked the landlord to reserve the smallest room for me so I can have it for myself. I was lucky that one tenant left that I was able to have the room for my own. I had my privacy and some peace and quite but not totally. I think its understandable since we cant expect all people to think that way we think and let others have their privacy too. | | | | | | |

| | To a certain extent, no. I've been living in this four-plex for about seven years now. I have a neighbor below me that every so often plays his tv loud sometimes. And another neighbor on the lower cornerside that likes to power up his speakers every once in a while. And they got me, the one who likes to practice on the piano about an hour or so a night...lol About the only time when there isn't a noise around here is when every one goes to work during the day. Then you have peace and quiet to do what you want to do. On days like that, I power up my speakers on my PC and jam...lol But, in conclusion, you are not going to have total peace and quiet in an apartment building. | | | | | | |

| | I lived in an apartment complex and still does for 18 years now, so no I don't expect peace and quiet, because I know how it is to live an apartment. It doesn't bother me anymore though since I am used to the noise. The noise actually calms my mind now and has the opposite effect.. :D About the man in your complex I think he is dreaming or something, but that's allright. It's good to have dreams but if he really wants peace and quiet he should move to a house as you suggest. If he doesn't like the noise there is only two things to do for him - Get used to it or move. :D | | | | | | |

| | Apartment living sucks so bad. People are very loud, and like to have parties with lots of people. I'm not against parties, but if you're going to have them go somewhere else. You can do things like that when you're neighbors are so close they're practically in your bathroom. And then you never know who is living next to you. We use to get lots of drug addicts knocking on our door cause they thought we were the neighbor below, and once the FBI asking us questions about someone that lived there. If you're some kind of college frat guy then apt is alot like being in a dorm or something, but for other people ...get a house, or even a townhouse, or stay at home with mom and dad. Its cheaper. | | | | | | |

| | I do expect a certain amount of peace and quiet. I have had issues down through the years. Even if you move into a house you can't be certain you will have complete peace. It would be hard to be quiet in an upper apartment. If you walk around much and the building is old it will creek and makes all kinds of noise. Are you planning his demise yet? | | | | | | |

| | For those who stay in apartment which would like to have a peace and quite environment, i dont think is possible. The wall within a units to another units is actually very thin, when some one open up his or her HiFi or home Theater, even different floor , you will surely hear the voice. The apartments is not only you the one who stay, but for all the residents. so noise is un avoidable. Even the noise of a car pass by your apartments, you can always hear it very clearly especially at nights. If want to stay in quiet and peace, please stay in rural area. | | | | | | |

| | No not really. We stayed in an apartment few years back and I always hear loud noises outside our unit... i guess it's expected that the environment would be like that as we are only few meters away from 24 hour convenience store, salon, eatery, etc... i have experienced living at a studio type condominium unit, one bedroom and two bedroom as well... the two bedroom was annoying, big time! why? because it's a condominium however we always hear screams and noises next door. yay! that made us decide to go back to our one bedroom condo unit.. i love our place.. it's peaceful and quiet... | | | | | | |
