How difficult is to get into top university of your country?  

In England the tuition costs of University are around £3500
On top of this you have to pay for accomodation, food, travel etc.
There are some grants available but only for the very lower wage earner.

Education is really costly in universities that are not Govt funded. But if there would be only those universities our education would have been lot worse. Thanks to the private institutions that took up the responsibility. Even they have a purpose to make profit but I don't blame them for that. At least the competitive environment is slowly but steadily improving our standards of education. Even in the US it is easier to get into private universities and to get funding. Also Govt universities have to stick to a lot of regulations which often prevents them from selecting an eligible candidate. Private Universities are often free from most of the obligations though they always have to adhere to some regulations set by Govt. I was about to leave for the US for my PhD, but I was stuck in some cobwebs of regulations. I had to show an amount in financial affidavit that I never actually had. Though I didn't have to spend the amount, just showing the amount was quite difficult. Even in India higher education costs a lot and this issue has a relation to the the top institutes having limited seats and accommodation problems. Thanks

you can even get the education loan if you get the seat in top university in the country but the matter is seats.
i think education has become a business only, people earn out there by this and students have to listen at the end that they have not done from the best university. so there must be a standard and regulation for all.

Here in my country , we have several government funded universities that is recognized by all as a top academics university. Their exams are really hard , and passing it will be the measure of how your intelligence can carry you. Its a privilege given to all students , regardless of family background ,means anyone can take exams . My sister passed one before , there is a seat limit to all courses because the tuition is free . They were treated as scholars there . For a general citizen here in my country higher education is affordable depending on the school . There are private schools that offers high education and good facilities but you have to pay alot in order to experience it .

I think seat limit is the problem. That causes the school to narrow the amount of students allowed, which causes more competition. It is very expensive to go to college where I live, up to 40k a year.
