I was wondering how many of ya'll well maybe not ya'll but other women you know think that the farm chick that doesn't wear make up and spends her day planting stuff in the garden, feedin animals and slaughtering her own food is too barberic for a woman so they look down upon these kind of women..I personally think if you can't get your hands dirty you won't amount to to much of nothing.. I mean comon we are women, we squeeze watermelons through lemons for cryin out loud.. and some women think they are to good to touch some dirt..

Hello lillybelledaisyrose,
Very pretty id name. You should not put yourself down like that. I also admire you self sufficency and go get it attitude. I lived near a farm and did not people these ladies down. I think it awesome and you cook the best dinners and fresh all the time with no chemicals. It is alot chores day and day out. It is ahrd to keep long nails or keeping perfum on when it attracks the knats on the hot days or mosqitoes etc... But you know a lot more about life and relationships compared to most of these. You go girl. Yes you are pretty on the outside and as well as inside.
Have a great day
Sincerely Unique16

Lol! Well said Lilly! I was just thinking the same yesterday, after a day in the garden, walking the sog and my hands feeling like sand paper, the creases stained brown and my nailed looking like they could use a good scrub! I had to go to the store too and hoped I didn't see any one from where I work as my cloths were pretty mucky, my hair wind blown and my hands filthy, but I didn't and frankly everyone knows that I am a gardn buff so what do they expect. At least when I go to work my hair is more in place and my cloths are clean but I can not say much for my hands. Super weathered because I work, hard, in the gardens. We grown meat cows too, which I don't have much part in except to feed them a bit in the summer when everyone else is gone.
I have been on the flip side mind you and was successful. Where my hair was done every three months, perfectly manicures toes and nails etc. So it can happen. Perhaps I am back in the garden and farm life but I have b een on the other side as well and did pretty good for myself.
I agree though. I can not stand anyone who are scared to get their hands dirty.
Mind you when I was polished, I was not about to go into the garden, not even with gloves, much less change the oil in the car, you know?
A time and place for everything.
In the garden, I am in my own element!
Thanks for the discussion!

hi LillyBelleDaisyRost I imagine a lot of mylotters here have gardens and a lot may have been raised on a farm too. I was born and raised on a farm in 'South Dakota and learned at an early age how to plant veggies, harvest them, hoe them, and yes a lotof times my hands were dirty too. We had to have irrigation water to keep out farms growing and doing your own irrigation also meant dragging hoses around and digging channels in places to water between the rows of veggies. that also meant getting your hands dirty.well then I grew up and moved to Arizona wher I worked as a nurses aide and again i often had my hands dirty from everything from poo to vomit but that was part of the job. You felt needed and fulfilled helping sick people and making their hospital stay a little pleasanter. No I do not look down on any woman who works on a farm at all, been there and done that, and I loved my growing up on a farm, best food in the world, fresh veggies and fresh fruit, what was not to like.Women who sneer are snobs in my eyes, hope they are in others too.

I am different too. I love to dig in the dirt. Take young animals and mother them.
although i am older than you, i enjoy the out doors. I now have grandchildren, but i have taken home pigs when it is to cold, and the mother can not raise them. fix bottles. then cook grits and baby cereal for them.
When mowing lawn and my husband hits a rabbit nest i will feed them and let them loose when older.
I have taken calves and feed them till old enough to eat grains.
My men enjoy older animals so we work well together. I help start them and my son finishes them out.

I just came in from my garden a few minutes ago and was delighted to read your post! There is dirt across my forehead, down my shirt and on my toes (even though I was wearing my boots!) :)
I do not understand when other people are above working the Earth. Mother Nature appreciates the little gardner...
I grow everything from flowers to veggies and apples...
I still take time to make myself pretty though... when I hit the feed store I like to think it helps me get a better deal. lol

I think often too much emphasis is put on being feminine. Personally I think it's great is a woman can earn her living with her hands. My partner is currently teaching me about cars and how to repair mine if I need to. It's very helpful and could save me from wasting money on having someone else fix it. Yes it's not "girls" work but so what? A woman can still be beautiful even when getting her hands dirty. But that's just my opinion. I'm not a girly girl but I like to get dressed up once in a while and do my hair and make up. But I also don't mind running around in sweat pants and a pontytail doing yard work. It's whatever I feel like that day.
