If you can look at the sun at this very moment, I think you can still see what I am trying to share. Anyway, there is an image I have taken from my camera so you can look at it and study the image.
I just saw this happening in my entire life so I am a bit amazed. I also wonder if there is a scientific or religious belief that you can share with regards to this phenomenon.

I went outside but i spent most of the time covering my face because of the sun
s searing heat. Looking up straight up would not be a wise thing to do. But i'll go out again in few a minutes and i'll compare if we share the same view. It so hot here and there's no cloud above but let's see...

i think you didn't get the full view of the scene if you look at it now or an hour ago. people who saw it two or three hours before i posted this said that the rainbow was smaller and a little closer to the sun and the darkness at the hole is much visible. the image here shows a clearer hole and the rainbow is bigger.

Neil, not everyone will be able to see this at the same time. It is called a sundog, although it can also happen with the moon. It is ice crystals in high up clouds. Usually means it will rain. I found some other cool rainbow pictures as well.http://www.komonews.com/weather/faq/4308372.html

hi gerty. yes it's true, we cannot see this all at the same time. it could be visible in our location this time but will not be seen at your location. those pictures are really great and i love those that have the images of rainbow which are not in the form of halo. thanks for sharing.

hello neil,
I haven't got the chance to see this image or view of the sun with the rainbow surrounding the big fire.
How i wish there could be any scientific explanation for this.
Anyway, you had taken a good shot my dear brother.
Here in Baguio, the weather is a bit cloudy and Mr.Sun is not too visible for the whole day.
Have a good day always dear and regards to your family esp to Zay2

hi neildc that is an awesome shot and wish I was a scientist
so I could give some real input here, but i am just in
awe, that is certainly different, maybe some more
learned mylotter will come along here and give us some
more information, maybe a scientific person with some
knowledge.

Hi Neil. That photo is awesome! I've never seen this before but I did look it up. I hate to give this phenomena such a clinical explanation but, well, you DID ask! LOL
Apparently, these are caused in a way very similar to the rainbows we see frequently. There's a lot of mumbo-jumbo scientific talk but here's the link to what I found about these "halos" or "coronas": http://www.wxdude.com/rainbows2.html
Apparently, these are more frequent than I would have thought!
Thanks SO MUCH for sharing this! I've seen a corona or halo before around the moon, but never the sun! This is spectacular!!!

Hi Neil,
Although it is bad for you to look at the sun with your naked eyes you have captured this beautiful picture, well done to you but I wouldn't, couldn't look up at the sun as it would hurt my eyes, thanks for the the picture. Hugs.

thanks tamara. i really rushed to come home this noontime to capture that scene. actually, i came a bit late as most people who saw it an hour earlier said it was more beautiful at that time. but anyway, i still able to capture the last few minutes of it.

That is an amazing shot and what a great job! I don’t have any scientific explanation for this phenomenon but when things like this occur it proves to me that there is a lot more to this world than what we can see. Someone or something really amazing is running the universe, it’s an awesome place.

Is it solar eclipse or moon eclipse? I think if the day still bright it must be moon eclipse. Its beautiful and every time moon eclipse happen every Muslim ( Islam ) do their eclipse 'sholat'. I have seen moon eclipse few time because it often happen but I never see solar eclipse personally.

UNFORTUNATELY. TATA.
