Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and Chevrolet  email this discussion to a friend?

Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet...do you remember that song? I think it was on commercials when I was a kid. It was the American way.

Boy have things changed. NFL is now the most popular sport in the USA. Hot dogs and apple pie are bad for you. And of course, we all know that the government had to bail out GM, or Chevrolet.

So if you had to think of replacements for the song what would you put in there now? What are the new things that when you think of them, you think of America? What items are considered the American Way?

I don't necessarily agree with the idea that apple pie and hot dogs are bad for us. I have never understood why Chevrolet was considered the existential American car. We all know that ford was the first.

Thank you for your opinion and response in this discussion savak03. However, do you remember the song? And what would you say would be more Americana now?

Well, I am so sorry that someone has such a poor opinion of the United States. I guess we aren't all fortunate in our way of life and I can see your opinion when I look at my hometown in Eastern Kentucky. However, I try to look at the good.

Here's an interesting fact for you: The Duryea brothers set up first American car manufacturing company in 1893.

My best to you my friend.

Who were the Duryea brothers? I don't think I have ever heard of them. I take it that that was before Henry Ford?

I would still say that baseball, apple pie and hot dogs are all still things that represent America. Now the Chevrolet thing, I'm not sure that there really is a car manufacturer that really represents America anymore. When I look at the driveways of all of my friends and family, it is more typical to see a Toyota or a Honda in their driveways than it is to see a vehicle that was manufactured my an American auto maker. But then is a Honda or a Toyota really unAmerican considering that these vehicles are mostly made in the US?

myLot reputation of 99/100. kykidd (4829)   ranked 61 out of 32,944 in life  2 years ago

I think the majority of even domestic vehicles are manufactured elsewhere, just assembled in the United States...right along with Toyota. Recently watching a Discovery television program, I found out that a lot of other manufacturers assemble their vehicles in the United States as well.

I am glad that there are still some baseball fans out there. I grew up in a town with a small (Single A, I think) Yankees farm team. It was really neat to go out and watch them on occasion. I would say we went to the games at least 3 or 4 times a year. Since my brother and I played baseball, there were always free games if you wore your uniform. We usually had a game that day, and since our field was right next to theirs, it was convenient. Plus, Herma Lee Fields (Loretta Lynn's neice), usually sang the National Anthem once a year. So we always had to be there for that game.

I do enjoy Apple Pie and even a good hot dog. There's nothing like eating a hot dog at Murphy's in Right Field right outside of Wrigley Field in Chicago. Even if you don't have tickets to the game, it's like being there.

Thank you for your response in this discussion, and your great positive attitude! I hope you have a great day!

Is that a popular song? I never heard this song before and didn't know until yet.
A good song should be popular forever.

When I think of America, money is the first thing into my mind, then the Hollywood.hehe

myLot reputation of 99/100. kykidd (4829)   ranked 61 out of 32,944 in life  2 years ago

When I was young, this was a very popular song. They used to always play it on commercials during the baseball games. I'm pretty sure that Chevrolet still sponsors the Cubs, but no longer do I get to hear the cute little jingle.

Kind of funny that you think of money when you think of America. I guess we don't realize how rich our country is, in relation to the people in other countries. I think we are very fortunate.

Not only the money in to my mind when I'd thought of America. Many things good or bad.
General Patton is my idol!I like him very much,so a great man!

Thanks for your responses Miranda, and also your friend request. It seems I used to have a great quote from General Patton, you have just reminded me of that. I'll have to look it up.

Thanks again, and have a good evening here on myLot!

Hi, kykidd. I have never heard of this song before at all. I would put hamburgers, football, sweet potato pie and Impala in place of this. I think of an American flag and saluting all of the heroes of the world that have fought for our country.

Thanks for your response in this discussion Cream. My apologies for taking so long to get back to you. I know now adays that Football is much more popular than any other sport, it's a really old song. Back before major league baseball had so many strikes, and lost all of their fans.

I am glad to hear that there are other patriotic people here on MyLot. I think that's great. And I am very thankful to those who have served our country.

Thanks again, and have a beautiful day!
