Are Hawaiian shirts appropriate for the office?  

Most workplaces have this so-called dress code and my office is one of this. You have to wear casual work attire, not necessarily a tie or long sleeves but we have to dress appropriately. However, on weekends, we can wear shorts, sandals and even Hawaiian shirts, it adds fun to the work. It appears like you just want to annoy that person in your office but just remember, have fun but be careful also with other person's getting offended for you may end up with a not-so-fun work memo. Nah, its not an appropriate outfit in the office. how are you going to display authority and seriousness about your job? take all hawaiian shirts to the beach..LOL.

Loud prints are always a giveaway to something informal. It may look great on the beach, but doesn't sound 'serious' enough to be worn at work. I think it's because of the fact that it's actually dizzying to look at a person wearing these prints a long time - now what would happen if you're talking in front of your employees for a long time, I'm pretty sure they'd no longer would want to look at you (with your shirt like that) for more than 30minutes.

Just think about it. It's not about freedom of expression, but rather, the freedom that we could have focus while looking at a person speaking instead of getting nausea or dizziness.

well it depends on your job. If you are a graphic designer and you are sitting at your office designing and not meeting clients I don't see anything wrong with that, but if you are a lawyer or a business man that wouldn't be appropriate and everybody will think that you don't take your job serious.

If your workplace is more informal as you describe, I see no reason why Hawaiian shirts wouldn't be appropriate for your office. Most offices would probably restrict such shirts though. Like Stan said, that just to much fun for most workplaces. welcome to mylot, PM me if I can help you out here.

This would have to depend on the office. If it is a corporate business and you have big business executives coming and going, Hawaiian shirts would probably not be very appropriate attire for the office. these shirts should be saved for more casual atmospheres.
