Is This What Police Are Being Taught Today?

At a recent inquest, it was appallingly revealed that a police officer had stood unmoved as a man drowned while two other members of the public dived straight in the waters - was actually following his training. I just could not help feeling flabbergasted with his statements at the inquest and had my mind reeling with a lot of questions about how the next generation of law enforcers are trained. Most of all the implementations of such atrocious police guidelines where they can actually let a man drown in their line of duty. This is absolute BS and not acceptable in principle, sanity, justice and even logic. It is just insane and I hope that the police officer including the institution will be held responsible for this unnecessary loss of life and that they be punished. What is becoming of this world? but i do have police as friends. and this one i know was involve in a few shooting and they told him after being founded he was in the right, if he shot another person he would be fired. sometime they are put in a situation, but that one should have jumped and saved the person

syankee525, Well, like LetranKnight25 it is protect and save thyself first, nowadays. I can understand the part about transferring out duty personnel who are involved in tragic shootouts in the line of duty as this is basically a proven conditions like PTDS. But, I am sure that if they are evaluated to be fit - they will reinstated duties without any reservations. This constable just deserve the sack as I think he is just putting up some excuses to cover up for his swimming deficiencies and judgment error.

Hi, skysuccess. This police officer should have tried saving this man. Training or no training! This does not show anything great about him being a police officer. If he is going to allow someone to die right before his eyes, then it makes me start to wonder if he will be this way even if he is not doing any training. Sometime police officers may have to break the rules to save another person's life. And this is what he may have needed to. But he did not do it. Whatever happened to protect and to serve?? A life was lost for nothing!

cream97, My exact sentiments here. I felt that the constable on the scene had been appalling and fell short of his responsibility as a civil servant.

hello success, oh, my that is very sad because there's a lot of people that needed police protection. i believe the police department should be questioned and investigated with regards to it's rules and regulations. how can some one allow a law that the cops should stand still while the person drowns? is that law maker ever got into that situation. well, when it comes to that i hope who made that stupid happen to him/her someday, i am sure no cop will help that person because the cops follow the law

LetranKnight25, I never ever could recall that there was any or such procedure or teaching as far as civil service is concern. I think this cop is just covering up for his gross mistakes, starting with a gross error in his judgment which resulted in a fatality. Everything about the whole thing is making him unfit for this job.

if you see police in my country, they are even worse.. they take money from driver in street by make fake mistake. if you want to make a report about something, they ask for money or the report won't be done. all they are thinking is money.. not to protect people

vokial_voc, I am sorry but it is a blatant fact that your country is stricken with corruption and it is a country wide issue where it affects everyone from all walks of life. It is certainly sad to see this but there are still some decent and honest people. Just don't loose hope for I am sure things will improve one day.
